Default Newbie saying HI!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Peter and I'm a college student looking to pick up an S2000 for myself and my brother as a 'fun' car.

We are both car enthusiasts and I like to do mods/mantainence by ourselves if possible.

Our current cars are a
2001 Acura 3.2 CL w/ some basic Comptech Goodies and
2001 Audi A4 1.8t with some decent work done (Chip, exhaust, coils, nav, sways, etc..)

We are hoping to get a lower mileage early gen S2k for under $20k in the near future.

I will do some more searching when I get some time, but I have a few basic questions.

Are the MY00-03 s2k's pretty much the same, and then it he MY04+ that got new rims, rear bumper, 2.2L etc.

Also any tips of what to look for in a used s2k? Is there many wear and tear items? I would imagine that it is quite reliable because Honda has been very good to the Acura.

Finally how hard is it to find one with the red interior. I'm really only interested in Grand Prix White/ Red and Black/Red.

Thanks!

-Peter

You should take an S into a mechanic for an inspection prior to purchasing. being a sports car, many s2000s get abused by over revving, improper launches, etc. Main mechanical problems are low compression due to damaged piston rings (from over revving), grinding transmission due to improper shifting (should never skip gears in the S), and damaged rear differential due to improper launches (if you launch at high rpm, the wheels must break free or the diff can get damaged).

Peter,

Best of luck in your hunt. You should be able to pick up some very nice MY00 - MY02 for around 20K or less. MY02 had some small improvements over MY00-MY01, most notably a glass rear window, vinyl (rather than carpet) center tunnel, two additional tweeters in the doors. There was also a suspension change in MY02, though I'm not exactly sure what was done.

You might have difficulty finding an 03 or more recent in that range.
