Default Observations after 4 days..

So I've been driving my S2k for 4 days. I've put on about 500 miles, and I feel like writing up some observations.. please don't hesitate to post anything that comes to mind while reading this.

First off I plan to do a bunch of maintenance this weekend. I don't think the spark plug recall has been performed on the car, so I will be getting 4 OEM plugs from honda tomorrow and installing them on saturday to proper torque specs. I will also be getting a PCX-004 oil filter, and one more run of non synth 10w30 (8400 miles). I'll pick up 2qt GM synchromesh friction modified from a GM dealer and swap out the tranny oil. I don't experience any grinding, but its pretty notchy from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. Last I ordered some LE 607 90W diff oil from hardtop guy so I will be replacing that probably over christmas weekend. probably doesn't need it, but I'll just make sure.

I hear a few engine/tranny noises.. most of them I think are normal as I know the S is pretty noisy. I'm pretty sure I have the deep whirling/rattling clutch noise on deceleration from high rpm. The clutch TSB definitely wasn't taken care of, and from everything I've read, thats what it sounds like.

Also, I notice another mid tone whirling noise that is RPM dependent and happens in every gear/neutral when I rev the engine. It emanates from the middle of the dash. I imagine its coming from the back of the engine. I did not hear it when I opened the hood and revved a bit while standing next to the car. Its not loud, and I think its probably natural.

I also have a slight high pitch gear whine. I hear it when I'm slightly accelerating or decelerating. Its RPM dependent and pretty quiet, but I'm pretty sure its from the tranny. Sounds just like the gear whine in my VW GTI. I can hear it in multiple gears. Clearest in 6th.. probably because its not drowned out by engine/exhaust.

Last, valve or cam followers or lifters or whatever go tick tick. My oil level is just a tad low. I plan to top it off in the morning before I drive to work. I've read that this is a typical noise? I can hear it clearly without putting my head to the engine when its at operating temp. I will check to see if it lessens between cold and warm.

Anyway.. she pulls like a champ. vtec is strong. none of the noises really sound like something is wrong.. but I really have nothing to compare it to.

I hear the faint gear whine from about 3k to 4k rpm in pretty much every gear. Maybe a little more pronounced in 5th and 6th. after 4k the sound gets drouned out.

I also start to hear the whirling at about 3k too.

I think the noise from the valve train is normal, although I don't think it gets better when the engine is warm.

Ticking is normal, vtec9. Loud clacking would be a serious concern.

Definitely proceed with your plan, and make sure you pick some primo fluids for the car (it deserves it!)
