Default n00b switching to Synthetic

I've put almost 11k on my car now and think its about time to switch to synthetic now. Since I have to take my car to the dealership tomorrow for a warranty repair anyway, I figured I would have them do the change.

I have to drop off my car monday morning, so that leaves me sunday to buy whatever I need. I figure I will go to pepboys and pick up what I need.

Do I need to buy a filter for the synthetic oil or will the OEM filters work? Just curious, since the dealership seems very reasonably priced for oil/filters in the past

While I"m at it... should I be changing the diff oil too? The Warranty work is a follow up to a 2nd gear change, so I"m assuming they changed the tranny oil already.

Thanks!
