You can get your deposit back. They can rightfully keep it but it's not worth it to most dealers to ACTUALLY keep it. They'll do everything they can to keep you from not buying the car, but It's not worth the heat to tell you that you can't get your deposit. Put an S2000 through an automated car wash, and a High pressure wash! No leaks!!!

You'll have problems with any car. Web forums tend to bring out the negative experiences. The S2k is one of the most reliable sportscars you can buy. I've had zero issues with my 2004.

Remember for every post where someone has a problem there are 1000 people with zero problems not posting because they are too busy enjoying their car.

The only reason the bad examples stick out are because, when someone has had their car relatively fine for 5 years, they don't make a post saying

Had my car for 5 years, and NOTHING wrong with the top!

The bad examples stick out more, and I'm sure if you go to a Z forum, you'll find that they have their own problems. This car's top is great. Mine is a daily driver, and I get along very well with this car. The top on my 5-6 year old car has no tears, no holes, and is as black as a new car's top. (I do take extreme care of it though, I'm a wash&wax freak)

Get the car and love it!

I would definitely get the S. I have driven the 350Z and it did have a bit more torque, but the S is a hell of a lot more fun. As long as you keep some protectant on your top, it will be fine.
They have worked a lot of bugs out in 04 and 05 with the top, better tires for wet driving, the car will handle a bit better in wet weather.
The 350Z has a lot of transmission problems (have read about owners on their 3rd transmission in two years), paint is crappier than most... get the S, you wont be dissapointed.

My gripes are:

The rear bumper is misaligned and cannot be fixed.
2nd gear occasionally pops out at high rpms during deceleration.
Top strikers creak like a rocking chair.

Thats about it. Its a blast and awesome to drive.

sounds like you need "shifting" lessons...a tranny after 10K on an S..does anyone else have that issue?

That's the point of a deposit, it's to hold it not to buy it. They have to give you the money back, you haven't signed any papers for the car yet.
