The s2000 isnt bulletproof either. Im getting my tranny replaced after only 10k miles.
I'm not sure if this is related to the "popping out of 2nd gear" issue that you posted in the previous post, but if it is, don't be so melodramatic. The fix for the 2nd gear issue is WAY short of a tranny replacement. It's just new 2nd gear and synchro. I had mine done around 11 months ago and no problems since.

For the original poster, I've neve rhad any problems with any of the tops on any of our 4 S2000s. The 2001 would get some water penetration if you shot high pressure water upwards against the passenger window. (since rain doesn't go from the "ground up" I doubt this should be a problem.

Just put somr protectant on the top every other tim eyou wash the car and you'll be fine. If you're too tall, you may be able to lower the seat with some different rails. Other than that, you won't be happy with any other car since you've already driven the S2000.

Well, I just got home and my new '05 Sebring S2k is outside resting. I drove away with <20 miles and now I'm over 100.

I really like the car, and hopefully it will serve me well over time...I plan to keep it 4-5 years. I wish I had jumped on the lease special when it was offered, but oh well. It probably wouldn't have made sense because I'll drive this car ~15k miles a year. This is the most expensive car I've ever bought and I hope it holds value well just like my other 2 Hondas did.

Thanks for all the help folks!

sounds like you need "shifting" lessons...a tranny after 10K on an S..does anyone else have that issue?
i dont need driving lessons or a change in my shifting technique. Honda needs to make a tranny that stays in gear when you put it there.

I had fourth gear replaced in a MY2005 after only a couple thousand miles. It was whining. I drove a MY2000 for three and a half years and had no tranny problems.

Glad you decided to buy an S...I've had mine 4.5 years and love it as much or more now as when I bought it!

I shouldnt have to have any replacement done on the car, period. Its only 10k miles old.
I figure you pay for a 30k car you should at least get some quality built into it.

you shouldn't have to have any major work done to the car with so few miles on it.

However, they ("they" being any manufacturer of just about any product you care to name) don't guaranty that you "won't" have a problem with the product. They can only guaranty that they'll "fix" it if you do. If what the dealer did to your car fixes the problem in the long run, I don't see that you've really got a complaint!

Hey Pancake! Congrats on the new purchase!!

I think you'll enjoy the car. From your description, I'd say that we're pretty much the same size. I'm 6'2" and about 220 in my birthday suit. I had to learn to fold up to get in and out of the car and there's not a lot of excess room when I'm in there but I took a 6k mile round trip from Texas to California and back last July and never had any significant problems. It wasn't Cadilac smooth (it's a sports car for cryin' out loud! ) but it wasn't bad either! You'll get used to it!

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

If you really feel that way and are not just saying this to "stir things up" then I feel sorry for you. 1st off, 30K isn't really that much for a car like this. 2nd, since when did the price paid make any guarantees to the quality of the product? Ask Mercedes, Audi and Jaguar owners about that. They all cost more and are much less reliable. The reason I feel sorry for you is that I think you are going to be a disappointed customer of all kinds of things. Nothing is perfect from TVs, to conputers, to a meal at a fine dining restaurant.

Now, if you're just playing the Devils Advocate, then no problem cause that's what these boards are for. So go get your second gear fixed. I know you don't need any driving lessons, and I know that Honda knows how to make a tranny that stays in gear..... you just don't have one of them right now.
