Shelley see this for an excellent buying advice:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=249683

it is UK specific, so may well need modifying for US/Can/Sitewide use

I think that "Car Buying Tips" has some good info. At least it gives the purchaser something to think about with regards to dealer scams, extended service plans, finding cheap loans, etc.

FWIW!

Now is the time to look. Call your local dealers and see what they have on the floor. They don't want the car now because they will end up sitting on it till Spring. I just picked up an '04 with 6 miles on it for 27,500. Have fun looking and welcome

Any reason why I should go for an '06 instead of an '05? (I know warranty might be one issue)
Reasons that are strictly related to the car itself? No, I don't think so. There's already been lots of discussions about the drive by wire (DBW) throttle control and electronic stability augmentation on the '06. You'll have to decide for yourself as to whether those are significant issues for you. They wouldn't be for me.

You should be able to find a relatively good deal on an '05, now that the '06's are starting to hit the streets but that might not necessarily be the case where you're at.

As for the warranty, if you're buying new, that's not an issue. The warranty starts when you buy the car and it's the same for both year models.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Steve R.

^ 350Z convt. is a nice car, but it's a lot more money and frankly it's a lot more "common." But, that's a personal debate. Hope Pancake checks back with us to report on his status.

redline in 2nd is about 61mph, 65mph in 3rd gear should be in vtec but definitely not almost redline.

It's generally accepted that the cars are equal as far as quickness goes.

1) look for ONE/TWO owner car
2) look for OLDER owner car = lesser abuse
3) look for under 20K miles car= lesser abuse
4) Check oil dip to see how old/new the oil is (dark=old=BAD, brown=new=good)

DO NOT buy a car from anyone under 30 (make that 40 to be safe)...I have seen some CRAZY as hell kids driving this car...2nd gear at 65-70 miles (i was in THIRD and it almost red line)...the car was screaming (for help). I'm only 22 but dang, those kids scared the hell out of me. If you are unfortunate enough to buy one of his car...Good luck.
That's rather extreme, don't you think? There are a lot of 20-something S2000 owners who take incredibly good care of their cars, and a fair number of older owners who don't. To pass on a car because of the owner's age is pretty foolish.

^ Let's not get too riled up about driver age... I think that's a rathole that I don't want to see us go down in our friendly, new forum.

Use your judgement about this. A responsible adult is a responsible adult, and let's leave it at that, OK?
