Question about dealers....
i was wondering, do dealers check the engine vin# to verify if the motor is the right one. I was just curious because ive had my 2005 for about a month now, and i just learned that the ap2 motors came with gold spark plug covers, but when i checked mine it was black. I kno he could had easily swapped with someone but i just want to make sure.
You can see the engine number right under the valve cover on the right side (facing it) of the engine. It should be relatively close in number to your VIN.
That's odd about the coil cover, though. I haven't seen many black ones dropped on AP2s. Usually people polish them.

Ask your dealer for a "VIN Status Check." The engine # that was recorded with your car when it was new is the one listed. If they don't match - you have your answer. Only a Honda dealer can do this. It takes about 20 seconds to get this info.

When you check out the rest of the engine number, it may not be a perfect match with the VIN, but it should be close (like within 10 or 20 of your VIN).
It seems, at least when the cars were manufactured in Tochigi, they must have done the engines in batches and then put them in the cars. Don't expect an exact match.
Yup, F22 means it's an AP2 (2.2L) block.
