Default s2000 buying questions

Hello all, i am new here on the forums. I have always loved the s2000 and the time has come were i have an opportunity to purchase one. I currently have a 2000 Saab 9-3 Viggen i am selling. My budget is anywhere inbetween 8,000-9300 dollars. I am looking at 2000-2001 s2000's with 80k miles and up.

What i would like to know is how reliable are these cars at 80+ thousand miles? and what should i expect to change in the future? Also what parts break. thank you.

By the way my name is Luca i live in los angeles, and i am a honda noob and car enthusiast.

80k miles and up are practically nothing for a Honda. If maintained properly, they can last forever. A member here lasted 200k just by conducting proper maintenance!

Welcome and good luck in your search...there are a lot of good high mileage s2k out there...just be vigilant about your search, and be prepared to travel to get it.

A while back I remember some of the early S2000 had a gearbox issue of popping out of 2nd or 3rd, maybe do some research on that because I could be wrong. Other than that price the cost of a clutch and a top like you would for any used car.

I'm at 103k now on my 03. So far all I've had to replace is the clutch and brake pads.

Good luck with your search. The way things are now you shouldn't have any issues finding a deal.

I would advise you to check the diff, transmission, retainers, compression and valves before your purchase.

reliability should not be much of an issue if you find one that has not been molested and has been well taken care of, I think you'll find that some owners suffer from some sort of ocd on this board so i think you should be able to find some really good examples in great shape for the year and mileage in ur price range.

here, just image us in the car and u walking in the rain towards the end of the commercial, if this doesn't convince you to get one, i don't know what will.
