Invoice is just a piece of paper that they can show you. "Dealer Cost" can be below this, but you'll never know what that is.

I got my 06 for $300 over invoice with NO dealer fee. You can also look at it this way ... I got my 06 for $200 under invoice but I have to pay dealer fee. 6 in one hand and half dozen in the other.
On my paperwork they put down purchase price is $31,134 + all the BS fee + dealer fee + tax = $33,500 OTD . I didn't care what they put on the the paper work as long as 06 S + $300 over invoice + tax = $33.5 K period. No more no less.

$500 under invoice is still a profitable deal for the dealership, it just depends if they want to sell it to you or not.

$50 under invoice -- free wheel locks, but $299 "document fee" = $250 over invoice. He had to get the car, but would have waived the document fee for the car he had in stock, an LBP. There are 4 dealers in the area, and this was the best deal.

Dealer hold back is 3% of MSRP or about $1k. So the dealer can still make money below invoice - that is ignoring any saleman's cut, floor planning and advertising costs.

'05 leftovers have $750 dealer cash. Was offerred $27,800 on an '05 without any haggling

$70 over is a good deal. You could call every dealer, one after the other and low ball them about the deal you got at the dealer ship you JUST called. Have them beat each other by $20-$50-$100 until you get the deal that you want. If you're going to nitpick over $70 over invoice - You'll probably never be happy with any deal you negotiate because you still probably left $10-$12 on the table at some other dealership.

MSRP is $34,600

Invoice is $31,183 (Invoice is Consumer Net - thoerietically you let a dealer keep his holdback, you can surely strike a deal)

Holdback is $1021 (You allow a dealer who has over $5 million invested in inventory, $10+million in his floorplan/facility, and $1 million is fixed expenses to profit/KEEP $1000 on a $35,000 car. Less than 3%)

NET NET $30,162 (Break Even) So there's the bottom of you barrel. Somewhere between $34,600 and $30,162 is the price you're gonna pay. Over 1200 Honda dealers in the US...one of them has the LOWEST price on a'06 S2000.

If you still think that's too much grab a new '05. I could only imagine what you think one of those is worth.

Good luck!
