Viktor,

Welcome to s2ki.com.

I think there was some good advice here for you. The S is not for everyone, sure, but it's also not for all circumstances (even if you want one). The softtop, while not a unique security issue with the S, is definitely something to think about. In my own case, I'm so damn anal about dents, that I end up parking a million miles from anywhere I need to go. I don't really mind, but if I had to live in a city (or possibly a campus), I don't think I'd keep the car there.

Best wishes in your choices.

^ Well, I was just trying to get to the "worry factor." If you don't think it'll detract from your enjoyment of the car -- worrying about whether someone is dinging your door in a parking lot -- then cool!

It's all about how far you push the pedal my friend.

Well i guess i should kinda introduce myself first. Well names Victor and i am business major in Biloxi, MS. I work full time and go to school full time. I currently own a 2003 Honda Civic Si. I have been thinking for the past 6 months about selling the Si and buying an S2000. But here is the thing the S2000 would be my DD and would see about 150 miles every week. I under stand that the S2000 is not a gas saver like most other hondas. I would buy a 00' or 01' and would like to stay around $15,000. When i sale my Si i will have about $8,000-$9,000 to put down on a S2000 so the loan will not be for to much. But i just want opinions on if i am making a solid choice. I understand the maintance and upkeep for an S2000, i have been lurking around this sit for awhile now just reading and reading and reading. So let me know what you think.
Victor, I lived in Baloxi in '68-'69. During that period I owned a Fiat 850 Spider and an MGB. Roadsters and beaches go together nicely.

As others have pointed out, there is more to the cost of ownership than just gasoline, and the S2000 is probably not your best choice. If you really want a roadster take a look at second generation Miatas. They are inexpensive to buy and operate, extremely reliable, and a heck of a lot of fun. We've had our first gen Miata for almost 17 years now, and also have an S2000, but the little Miata is still fun to drive. Gas mileage is great, insurance is inexpensive, tires don't cost much, and they are every bit as much of a true sports car as an S2000.

You should be able to buy a like-new second generation Miata for the $8000-$9000 equity you have in your Si and be left with NO car payment at all.

thanks for all the warm welcomes. You guys are the best. Well i just secured a second job for the summer. i will hopefully be making $1800 a month and with only $350 for rent, $60 for cell phone (bloody piece of crap), and gas to pay i hope to be saving $1000 a month. so that would be an extra $4000 and if i hold out till November to get raid of the Si i should be able to have close to $11,000 for an S2000 which i would only need a loan for $4,000-$6,000 depending on what is available at the time. I will wait to find the right one. My next question is how much can i exact my insurance to jump if i get 2000/20001 from a 2003 Si?

Thanks for everybodies kind words and suggestions. And i drove a Miata for awhile they are nice but i dont think i would pick one over a S2000.

the hardest thing will be finding a local S2000 or finding someone willing to drive the S2000 to me since someone will have to sign the loan papers...most sellers would see this as to much to sell a car...even when offered money and a plane ticket home....

Now THATS a nice job opportunity: driving cars from sellers to buyers (or the other way around) across the US. I'm in. I'll specialize in S2000's.
