Default S2k Buying Strategy

HI all,

I'll be buying a new '07 S2k come May/June. I wanted to find out from you all that have bought brand new from the dealership:

What strategies/tactics did you use to get a good deal on your s2k? I would like to get some ideas as to different ways I can approach a honda salesman in order to get as good a deal i can. I know alot of people use their knowledge of the s2k as leverage...they use the faults of the car to squeeze a deal. I've heard other people that go to multiple dealerships and actually try to use one dealer's offer for leverage at the other dealership.

Please post your experiences with this...i'd greatly appreciate it =)

Thanks!

just go straight for fleet manager. tell them u want it at this price. if not walk away and go to a different dealership. you can also get quotes from other dealerships to use it for bargaining.

request invoice pricing online via email. if the sales dude say they'll give it to you at invoice when they email you back, show up at the dealer with the print out of the email. then basically your car price is at invoice and you start from there. negotiate to go lower, say invoice = 29k (for ex) request 28500 at multiple dealerships and see who takes it. o yea get 06 too since they'll be trying to get rid of them. One strategy that I used (buying a different car, not when I bought my S2000), but I walked into a dealership, made an offer on the car I wanted (EVO), and the sales person laughed at me......said no way, way too low, blah blah blah. As I was doing research online previous days beforehand, I found someone who posted on an Evo message board to what they just purchased a new Evo for (different city, different dealership - great price). I told the sales person, so and so just posted they purchased an Evo at this price; I know this price can be done. I guess I'll have to give that dealership a call. The sales person called me out and took me to his computer...........told me to show him the message board posting. Of course, I did, and he didn't have anything to say (thought I was making it up).

Long story short, he still turned down that offer that day so I walked out. While I was at another dealership the next day, he ended up calling me and took my offer.

As someone else mentioned, getting quotes from other dealerships (especially using email) is a definitely a great bargaining tool. Don't be afraid to walk out.

Buy now, depending where you live a better deal is usually given in Jan/Feb than May/June on cars like the S2000.

Like NNY S2k said, buy an 06 now. Buying a convertible on the east coast in the winter is awesome because nobody else wants to buy one.

Look at the price thread in the introductions area (I think) to see what others are paying. Then call the fleet manager for all your local dealers and see if they'll match the price. If they do, go down and buy it. Don't let them sucker you with additional fees or anything else. Get a set out-the-door price (understand that tax differs by area).
