S2k Buying Strategy
@NNI: don't want to drive too far. LA would be the farthest i would drive.
@ONE: As stated in the OP, I want to get a new '07 that hasn't been owned. $$ isn't too big an issue as long as it's < $40k. Although i'm looking for a good deal, i won't go through great lengths (or buy used) to get one. Reliability and the security of knowing that i'm the only one that's owned it is part of the price i'm willing to pay =)

there is alot of good advice here...here is mine.
there are many ways to do this, pick one and be comfortable with it, call , or email, or go in face to face. even a combo of the three will work. do your homework, they know what they can sell the cars for and so should you.
ramdom offers are a joke to the pros and even if you encounter idiots know that before a car deal is done a pro has looked at it. forget about your ego, who is smarter, who is your friend, there is you, a contract, and another person, period. he wants to get as much as he can and you want to pay as little as you can.
when a car is hot, and in demand you will pay more, same is the opposite being true. want a chevy now and you get is dirt cheap, a bmw you will pay more...demand is the key.
go to carsdirect.com, get their price, you can walk into any dealer and get this price or they missed a sale and you can get it from carsdirect, tell them that. cd prices are very very good and available to everyone.
car prices vary by area, state, etc...so the guy who stole the car in ny and made that incredible deal may not matter to the guy in lompoc, ca who is trying to buy his. each dealer gets only so many S2000 and they see them as their most expensive car to sell, most profit, etc...they even sell quicker in some places than others.
in the end, make up your mind to walk if the deal is not right, i have been stopped with one foot out the door several times and gotten my deal and even had a few dealers reject my deal altogether, not biggie, it is only a car and there is another place to buy it down the road.
best of luck.
