S2K reliability? :D
Hi all
Looked around the forum for a post similar to this but found only bits and pieces. Sorry if this seems like a re-post :/
I've heard that the S2K is a good daily driver in most conditions, but I was curious of whether or not I should own one personally. Initially, I asked a friend for suggestions on a car I should buy(he owns a '09 civic si and suggested an s2k). Currently, I drive a minivan (like a boss), toyota tacoma, and '08 accord coupe. These cars, though, are all my parents and blah blah blah. I drive all of these cars throughout the week and they're all different. However, I was thinking about buying a used S2K as a first car and wondering whether one could last me through college and beyond
Looking around, I've seen some '00s for 14k w/ 45-75k? miles and was wondering if this would be a good buy. I understand insurance will be pricy but I can work it out if it pays off till after college.
Thanks for any feedback!

I can say the reliability factor on this car is great. Like any other Honda, this has held up in that factor. As long as you do the regular maintenance work it requires and it can last you a very long time.
My other concern though is this being your first car. I wouldn't normally recommend the S to be anyone's first car unless they have had experience with a similar type of vehicle or if you've had track experience. But based on the cars you stated it doesn't sound like it. Be aware this car can be very unforgiving so make sure you get a feel for it first if you do decide to purchase one. Tires are crucial to the S so don't take it lightly. Anyways, good luck with whatever decision you choose.

Thanks for the replies
I do appreciate it and your comments have affected my decision of...
Buying one. As soon as I can put a downpayment on an S2K and have some extra cash for maintenance, I'll definitely be purchasing one
Thanks again! I'll now be stalking the forums for info... mwahaha.

1. Yes they are pretty cheap to maintain and it has the Honda reliability. As others have said, some members have reached close to or beyond 300k miles.
2. Since this is your first car, I highly suggest you take your time "getting to know" your car once you get it; how it handles, how it feels. Once you get an s2000 you will be hooked. This is a TRUE sports car, not just a luxury car with some "sport" features. As far as being practical, well it has 2 seats with only a small/midsize trunk. I don't recommend you drive it in the snow (depending on what area you are from) but some people do. Good luck
