Default S2k as a Daily?

Hi All,

Currently own a FD RX7 and a VW Bora TDi daily hack, but have recently been having thoughts of chopping in both cars to get a S2k and free up a few thousand to pay off a lump of debt (partly due to rebuild of the RX7 before anyone asks )

However I car share for work and have to do 110miles 2/3 times a week. Have read that the S2k can manage 35mpg at a push driven softly, but how true is this in the real world? Will it ever actually see this sort of mpg figure?

Other than that, have answered most queries by having a look around the forum, and will continue to do so as its giving me lots of ideas for if i do end up with a S2k of my own

Thanks very much in advance for any help

Cheers,
Alex

It'll do that sort of figure at a constant 70-80mph on a motorway.

Most people average somewhere between 25 and 30mpg, although there are some exceptions of course.

Not the way I drive it.

I guess it might if you were holding a constant speed on a motorway in 6th gear.
But that economy could be wrecked by a couple of fast starts off the lights or a few minutes of VTec as you decide to take the long way home down the lanes.

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for the quick replies

Work drive is literally M40/A34 so very much a stick it in 6th gear and cruise away, traffic doesnt allow for any fun (if it does open up and you put your foot down you'll only be charging towards another 50mph pocket anyway)

Dont mind how much it drinks when having fun really as mpg is pretty much irrelevant at that point (Heck the RX7 does about 17mpg if you stay completely off boost...) just the idea of replacing the diesel bora which worries me slightly in all honesty - but dare say sacrificing some mpg for being able to use a nice car during the week would be worthwhile.

For a newer car (mines MY06) currently budget about £50 for 270 miles, for that type of driving.

I do 250 miles per week in mine on the A14 - never really get it above 75mph on the daily drive and mine does 28mpg. I'd work on about £50 per week for your fuel doing that sort of mileage.

I agree, I commute on B roads, with the occasional bit of motorway driving and the occasional bit of hooning around, and I get 30mpg.

I did exactly the same length commute for about 6 months and I was getting around 320 miles per tank on mainly A roads in quite slow traffic.

I did >70K miles in just over two years in my 2003. Much of this was motorway... it would average 30-32mpg at 70-75mph roof up or down...

I did see high teens occasionally if I was blasting about the lanes... I don't think I saw better than 35mpg and even if I did you'd have had to be driving like Miss Daisy (and what would be the point of that)...
