Should I buy?
get a droptop Z. sounds like you NEED the torque and luxuries of your z. something the s doesnt offer. the s and z ARE equal in straight line and the shifter and the handling and the looks won it for me. i love how the s is so small and easy to get around town and get thru traffic. wish u good luck dude!

I like the look of the s2000, the front, the rear, the fact that i can drop the top..
but its sooo little from the sides though..
whyhasnt honda improved their vtec design?? nissan's valve timing system advances and retards timing to add torque and horsepower...
i love ym z, the feel, the power, the looks, and the size of the body...
i love the heated seats, the powr seats.. the electronic gauges.... it's killing me even thinking about it...

You think the S2000 is "sooo little"? Dude, that's the POINT! REAL sports cars are supposed to be SMALL and LIGHT. You love the *size* of the body of the 350Z?! Have you considered a Buick? An SUV?
As for VTEC, the Honda system has different cam lobe profiles, with different lift and duration and surely timing as well (not sure on that, but no reason they shouldn't have different timing for the different cam lobes). Increasing lift and duration is a FAR more effective way to get high-rpm performance than merely altering the timing of fixed lift/duration cams. Which is why the S2000 makes power all the way to its 9000rpm redline (only 8k for AP2's).
FWIW iVTEC (not on the S2000) has variable cam timing in addition to having two different lobe profiles. Good for filling in, but again, altering cam timing isn't as powerful a tool as having low lift/duration lobes for low rpm and higher lift/duration lobes for high rpm.
I'm sorta with you on the torque complaint. IMO, the S2000 would've been a much better sports car with a 2.4 liter making ~240-260hp than a 2.0 (or 2.2) making 240.
But my real complaint is that there's no S2000 coupe/hatch. I'm still waiting for a NEW 240Z! All these years and nobody's quite managed to do it...
Anyway, you don't sound like an S2000 candidate to me, but you should definitely lose the 350Z. Not because it isn't a great car (despite my comments above, I know it *is* a great car), but because you shouldn't be a SLAVE to it. Get something cheaper.

I'm not a "honda" person, either. But when I like a car, I learn to love it. Maybe the powerband is too much of a sacrifice, but I honestly just think you're scared of what people might say. When I bought my S2000, all my buddies with EVO's and GTO's told me I wouldn't keep it for over a month...but they were wrong and I've never been happier with a car. Between the handling, the sound (HKS
), the looks, and having the ability to drop the top...it's definitely a keeper. But make a decision that's good for you.
I have owned both. I owned an 06 350Z GT and now a 07 S2K. I think the S2K is so much more fun to drive. The Z just feels very heavy around turns etc.
I even had the Nismo 19's and Nismo suspension installed and it still didn't handle nearly like the S does stock.
Yes the Z has more torque, but that isn't everything unless your just looking for a car that goes in a straight line really fast, but the Z doesn't do that either. lol
I guess it just comes down to what you like.

I'll be honest.. i grew up in the car world HATING honda, the drivers, the cars, everything about it..
i hated the ricer scene and how it always seemed to coincide with a honda.. the torque numbers on the engines are quite ridiculous to me...

ok guys... the 350z payment ansd insurance are costing me a lil over $700 a month.. the total for a used s2k can keep me way under $500. I've been looking into the s2k
I say, stick with what you love. Don't buy something if you're not sure. You're only setting yourself up to be disappointed.
Whatever you do, good luck and have fun bro
