I'm debating whether i should trade my 02 s2000 for a brand new 06 or maybe a little later 07 S. I like the legendary 9k redline of the AP1 but the appeal of a new s2000 is pretty strong? What do you guys think? Would you trade in your AP1 for a new AP2? I have 42,000 miles and a couple mods.

blah i feel you. my 02 is in GREAT condition.. but theres just something about a car with 2 miles on it... everything is perfect, warranty, etc. i prob still have some negative equity (i bought my car not even a year ago), so trading it in is prob out of the question. which is why i dont think about it to much. and i do love having the 9k redline, stiffer sways etc. its all up to you.

yes and no.

there are so many variables.

when i purchased my06, i originally looked at 04's to save money.

i could have saved 10k, but would always have doubts and a limited warranty. i would also be sacrificing the color that i wanted.

i also thought to myself, i'm going to daily drive this car and the extra torque and "softer" ride would suit me more than the AP1. i also liked the exterior and interior touches that made the car more refined.


however the s2000 was my dream car that i wanted when it first came out 6 years ago. i didn't care which one it was, i just wanted it in white i just so happened to like the AP2 a bit more.

now if i was in your situation, and already had the S i wanted, in good condition, i wouldn't trade it ever. just like i'll keep my current S.

and like it has also been stated, this isn't (like most car purchases) the best financial move. usually when you buy a new car you buy a cheaper car or a significantly better one. its just not worth it, to me, to trade up. plus if you like to mod your 02 doesn't have to wait for new mods.


so to summarize: if you're buying a new car with no previous experience with an S, the 06 has so much going for it.

but if you are already comming from an S i wouldn't trade at all. the changes are marginal and in fact, AP1 owners seem to take more pride in their 9k redline and ... crappier stereos....

After my drive in the 06' - I confirmed I enjoy the more aggressive look of the AP2's a bit more, but love the driving characteristics of the AP1 more than anything!

 

I would only go to an '06/'07 if my '02 was stolen and/or wrecked.

ok i didnt explain the details too clearly. I bought my 02 about for $19,000. I'm gonna start working at honda pretty soon so i'll get a pretty good price on the new s2000. I went in to get a price for trade in and they said $18,500. I paid about $825 for tax(most of you guys know how i did that...). So i'm not losing too much money. AP2 owners love their AP2's and AP1 owners love their AP1's i realized. But seeing that i'm only 19 and had to pay off the car myself I didnt have a much of a choice i just picked the best deal. I have the Sebring Silver but i'm not too much of a fan of that color. Anyone want to give me a ride in their AP2 hopefully 06? I'm in Cerritos..
