Sold a Boxster to get a S2000
I Agree that you must maintain the machines or they will kill you in costs. Maintenance is expensive but is key to prevention. That is why I say I don't think mine was an experience in unreliability it was just a car getting old. It was the shop that was my problem. The service and costs and general lack of knowledge/customer service that I found to be terrible.
I did send a note to Porsche Canada and they said that they were sorry for the issues and that they were ccing everyone and thier dog about it..., funny though I didn't see a single address in the CC line, they just copied a bunch of names onto the bottom of the email.
I have a friend also that was having problems with a Boxter auto window. She took the car in and sat nextdoor in a coffee shop reading the newspaper and waiting. She saw a tech come out to her car, he sat down and looked around, 15 seconds later he gets out. She comes back to the shop about an hour later as the car had not moved and was told that the motor was shot and it needed to be replaced.

Wow seeker,
you are my hero,i completely agree with you how this car is a blast and is like no other.Look at me,i sold mine back in february and put myself into Acura TSX.Dont get me wrong the sedan is also a joy to drive handles superbly and as a matter of fact i see a lot of peaople over at TSXclub.com are switching from s2k to TSX.You get my point. The TSX is equivalent of hte s2k in the sedan segment, especialy if you have 6spd.
Now i want to get back to an s2k badly,i just miss this car so much.I sold it for the wrong reasons and now i regret it.That car just connects with you in some special way and you are not able to forget that feeling.
Anyway enjoy your stay here and your car!!!Good luck!!!

Welcome aboard. Nice observations and comparision. You and DDonovan should stop by the vintage forum and intoduce yourselves (if you haven't already). We usually have a couple of meets a year, with other (vintage) S2K folks
I had a'79 X-1/9. The handling was great, just not enough power (and that was even with the move to the 1.9 liter upgrade that year).

[QUOTE=seeker97,Sep 26 2008, 05:41 PM] Greetings all. I just bought a S2000 (a yellow 2006, used, with 6k miles) and wanted to say hi. I'll apologize for a long, rambling post. So, either pop open a cold one and settle back for a loooong read, or skip this rant completely. These are also just my own personal thoughts; there are few absolute
I have to agree on the watercooled Porsches....
The 996 interior is a joke for the price you pay. The 996 GT3 with fancy interior options still look and feel cheap...I mean the turn signal stalk feels cheaper than a GM Cobalt for goodness sakes...
The 997 def has a higher scale interior but I'm just not sure what I'm buying for 100k for a 911 S. I drove one on autopolis and while it's definitely fun....100k fun? I think I'll pass.
The S2000 brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it on a road course and the car is almost stock. You'll love the car to death and just wish for a bit more power =)

I enjoyed that read. Thanks for a good post
I am 32 and I have owned both an AP1 and AP2 S2000. I currently own a 2006 911 C4S and a 2001 Boxster S which was passed on to me when my father passed away.
I can say that all three cars are totally different from each other. My favorite car to drive is the Boxster S because I believe that it's the best of both worlds. It has power, stability, open road feel, it's responsive, and it has name recognition.
I noticed that you didn't mention to stability of the Boxster compared to the S2000. Coming from a MY00 S2000, I can say that the Boxster's rear end is much more planted, which inspires more confidence from the driver and puts you more at ease during hard mountain driving. I also owned a MY04 which was an improvement over the AP1, but the rear end still was very twitchy. The S2000's shifter is the best of the bunch. The S2000 also had a mind-tires connetion that can only be rivaled by the Miata. The throttle feel in sport mode in the C4S is comparable to the S2000's and I like how I have the option to stiffen the suspension during more agressive driving. The C4S is a very heavy car at 3400 lbs, however, it handles extremely well and can cover ground in ramarkable speed.
All three cars have their advantages and disadvantages. I guess you have to decide what you want out of your car.
The S2000 is a pure, raw car that was meant for the track. If I was at a track I'd pick the S2000 to drive hands down. I can really test myself in the S2000 and if I was just worried about knocking over cones, I'd love to play around the S2000.
The Boxster seems like more of the weekend cruiser with the girl friend in the mountains car. It's a little larger, it has more amentities and it's easier to handle in the corners.
The 911 is the "everyday" sports coupe for the car lover who doesn't need space and wants the extra performance. The 911 also gets the most attention out of the bunch... especially with the GT3 kit.
I've been a member of this form for a long long time and I can admit that I am not a track junkie like many of the respected members here. I'm also not a greese monkey. I only go out on mountain drives once every month or so. So for me, the 911 fits my life style best. I live in Atlanta so I don't have the open road like many people. But there are always resturants to pull up to and valet's to park my ride. I feel like the 911 expresses my personality better than a Navigator or Escalade or a BMW or Mercedes. I have all the creature comforts of an upscale vehicle while enjoying a little spice and speed when I want it.
I really miss my S2000, but I know that I never abused it the way that it needed to be abused... to be loved that is. But I have nothing but respect for the S2000. It's in a league of it's own. It's not a Bosxter, but it doesn't want to be. It doesn't desire the power and torque of the 350 Z and it doesn't care to be as cute as the Sky or Solstice. It also doesn't want to be as tame as the Miata.
I believe that the S2000 will be even more respected once production ceases, even more so than the NSX IMHO.
