Totaled my RX-8, now I'm here lol

Long story short my 8 is gone and I don't really have the patience to mod up another one, so now I'm looking at these dorky looking S2000s. I'm only kidding. Same redline, same nimble handling, same god awful lack of torque, I should feel right at home!
The accident just happened about a week and a half ago so obviously I don't have an S2K yet, however I have finally made a settlement with the insurance company and am getting back 17k for my 8. I'm now looking for the perfect AP1, hoping that I can find one with no more than 50k miles on it for that price. I've ridden as a passenger but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to test drive one yet, not that I'd really need to since I know exactly what to expect. As of now I'm stuck driving a Chevy Malibu rental car (Which insurance is paying for luckily) until I find myself one of these go karts to drive around every day. I really can't wait.
Just figured I'd introduce myself now since all I do is lurk these forums for hours at a time. It's gonna be like rx8club all over again...
And basically I screwed up real bad when downshifting. The roads were damp and I was on summer tires, completely lost traction before I was even fully in-gear, did a 180 and slammed into a guardrail.
Get the newest model you can afford. After owning every generation of AP1 and 2 over the past 6-8 years I can say that with confidence the newer the car the better it became. The S2000 was not a case where Honda went and ruined it with progressive changes.

You think so? Trust me I have gone through just about every AP1 vs AP2 argument thread on the internet and honestly I would not mind owning either car; the differences are not significant enough to completely disregard every S2K after '04. To be honest, I am more swayed by the body style changes between the AP1 and AP2 rather than things such as the redline or suspension. idk lol I really shouldn't be being so picky considering I kinda don't have a car right now
Hey there
I have to disagree with almost every argument on the internet. I have driven both multiple times. Also drove an RX-8 once. I can honestly say the AP2 feels 100% better than the AP1. Everyone say the AP1 is a raw, track machine but to me it just feels jerky and hard to handle, not impossible but much tougher. Also, the minuscule +/-10 ft/lbs of torque is VERY noticeable, drive one after the other and you WILL notice the difference. I LOVE my AP2, sure it's not as "raw" as an AP1 but it's by no means a soft car, it still feels very much like a sports car. You will not regret going with AP2 if you decide to go that way. Basically, go drive both yourself, because everyone has different opinions. Good luck with finding your next car
