Default V8 S2000

Hi, I wanted to say that during my short time lurking on this forum to seems to be detailed-containing tons of great resources. I beginning the process of obtaining a GPW (not sure what year I want) and shoehorning a C63 drive train into it. Should be fun!

Background:
I have lightly modified 06 Graphite Grey Evo MR that serves double duty as my daily driver and autox weapon of choice. While the car is amazing is has some significant short comings and compromises. Not fun to drive in stop and go with the Excedy Carbon HD twin disk! The lack of torque below boost combined with the clutch makes daily driving a nightmare. The turbo (Stock) is fun, but I would like a more linear power curve-I don't see how 42R owners drive their cars!

Anyway, I recently moved to socal and while in the market for a second car I wanted to make sure and take full advantage of the weather with a rag-top. My brother is building a LS2 powered miata and while it will be insane I prefer the looks of the s2000 to almost all other potential convertibles.

Madness:
The primary reasons for the c63 engine is that I want a big, modern v8 that is well meshed with a high performance automatic transmission (going back to my need for effortless d.d. car) For me with ~550HP, paddles shifters, a real locking transmission, auto blipping down shifts and wrecked ones being had for 13k-20k (with the ability to part it out and regain most of that) it seems like a irresistible combo!

My goals for the project are to deliver OEM quality-first and foremost, a quick and seemless power transfer, the ease of an automatic, a good looking ride, and a fun car overall to drive. I expect this to be completed in the next 12 months or so. Wish me luck!

People are swapping full s2k drivetrains into civic coupes these days, I doubt this guy will have an issue with this as long as the money/dedication is there, any thing is possible

If your set on the M-B V8, then good luck I hope it turns out well. If not, I would seriously consider the LS-Family engines. You may end up saving $20,000 on the project, be just as fast, and have the ENTIRE aftermarket working for you with the S2000/LSX combo.

I agree with ^ I have a LS1 swapped S2000 and it is modern, EFI, Tunable (very tunable),great on gas, light weight, can be had in an automatic for even less money and you can do paddle shifters on it for about 1800.00. I would have to say that the MB V8 would be very computer controlled making it even harder to make work unles you plan on doing a bunch of sensors.

Good choice man! I actually am very familiar with the whole LS2000 process. Honestly, Its not as hard as some may say. If your handy with welding and couples of grand in cash this is very do-able process.

The hardest part of this would be fabricating motor mounts and moving the steering rack. Other then that everything pretty much goes into place. Even the shifter goes through the orignal hole.
