Why I chose an S2K...
Greetings.
I remember wanting to purchase a Mazda RX-8 last year (in a beautiful British Racing Green) but unfourtantley the car was an automatic. My fascination with rotary engines ended me up on a lookout for a RX-7 FD. If you do not know this, the FD series contained the first ever mass produced twin turbo engine. It's a great sports car that Mazda has yet to equal, however I wanted the more elusive RX-7 Spirit R Type A which was only released in Japan. I found an import website that was listing the car cheaper than I imagined, however my income wouldn't grant me such a car so I put it on the back of my list as a future purchase.
Now it may seem I am a big Mazda fan, which I'm a fan of their sports car lineups than anything else, but something else came across my way.
The S2000.
I wish I remembered what brought me to this car, I think Forza 3 did that. I tuned it up, bought all the upgrades, and just loved racing the car in the game. I owned a '94 Accord 2 years back, and never really cared too much for Hondas (however my family sweared by them). Last Novemember I grew very interested in Formula 1 and cars in general, to where it was the only thing I wanted to do. As I delved into the history of F1 racing, I came across how important Honda was to the sport.
Then I came across Senna, who held Honda in such a high regard which brought me to the NSX which he helped test drive. I was very impressed by the NSX, and wanted to learn more about the designer of the vehicle (Shigeru Uehara), so I researched what other vehicles he worked on.
I ended up finding the S2000 which in my honest opinion could be the greatest sports car ever made, actually I consider it to be a race car.
50/50 weight distrubtion, 9k RPM on the F20C engine, double wishbone suspension, X-Bone frame, digital tach, engine start button, etc etc.
Everything about the car is the epitome of what Honda stands for. It encompasses everything about them. Consider Honda's history with motorcycles, and this car brings it. You have a convertible with a high revving engine, and to me feels like a japanese sportbike on 4 wheels. You also have Honda's brilliant engineering with the VTEC system, and thankfull sat the engine longitudially so it would be a rear-wheel drive. I could go on, but I think everyone on this forum knows how great of a car this is, and Shigeru Uehara and his team developed the crowning jewel for Honda. Eclipsing this car would be quite a feat, they just knew how to build such an awesome sports car.
It's a shame Honda is moving towards being more consumer based like Toyota with no sports cars in their lineup. And then Honda pulling out of F1 and selling their racing team was a shocking moment as well.
Anyway while I love the F20C engine, I went with an AP2 because as of right now I just don't have the money for the modifications I would like to add on an AP1. Like the AP1 to AP2 headlight conversion and bumper, increasing the wheel size to either 17's, or higher, and other mods. I'm happy with my 04 Silverstone Metallic AP2, which already came installed with an AEM v2 cold intake, but I will have to be patient once I make some more money to get an AP1 and do some modifications to it.
As for as modifications on the AP2, I would like to have Tein Super Racing Coilovers and maybe an Invidia Exhaust. Don't want to mod the car too much, considering I doubt I'll use it to its full potential where I live (in Colorado). I'm also worried about theft, so exterior modifications to me aren't important.
In the end I love the s2000, its everything I wanted a car to be and I couldn't be more happy. I look forward to sharing my enthusiam.
