Would you buy a S2k that has been crashed into
There is a supposedly good deal on a 05 S2k that has been crashed into a ditch. The owner asked for 18.5K. I was told it cost the owner 5K to get the car fixed and the current condition is almost perfect with new paint.
My question is after a crash with all the impact and everything, could the tran/engine sustain the crash without any mechanical damage or hiden cracks? I once drove an Accord over the sidewalk curb and a few months later, I found out one of the engine mount had a crack and had to be replaced.

Persoanly, no. I would rather have an older car with no history of wrecking. Reason being is that I will always be concerned that soemthing was weakened by the impact and may surface later. That is a great price... but no one gives things away, so there must be a reason for the really low price. Otherwise if it was so mint, they could charge higher... just my .02

$5K to get it fixed actually means minimal damage. If the work was done well, it's as good as new.
I speak from experience -- I crashed my S2000 into a ditch about a month after I bought it. It did about $5K damage. Car now has five years and 60K miles on it, many of them on the racetrack. The ditch thing was no big deal and did not do any permanent harm to the car.
(Hydroplaning the car on the racetrack at 80mph and crashing into a concrete wall was a different story. That damage did have some permanent effects on the car, though I still drive it on the racetrack.)
like others have stated check to see what type of damage was done to the car first and get back to us.if it was just the body then i'd say go for it but if something happened to the frame i would suggest you stay away.

If it was a 'good' deal, the dude would fix the car himself.
Honestly, you need to have the damage assessed and the frame checked. If they had to have the frame pulled or fixed then I wouldn't go near it, HOWEVER and this is a BIG HOWEVER, if it was just body damage I say go for it.
Its a car and if you live in a major city there is a good chance it will see at least one wreck. Bumpers on cars today are almost disposable. However, I've changed a bumper, tail-light, and trunk lid and still come nowhere near 5,000. Find out exactly what was done, and find a GOOD bodyshop to do the inspection.
