Default ARC Vs. J's Racing

Just looking for some answers before I pick up either of these. Firstly which would you guys say is "better", is the J's racing intake actually worth 3 times the price of the ARC unit?. If I end up going with the J's intake, do I have to modify the front bumber or it will be unnafected by it (would it be alright for rain driving? no hydrolocking ?)

Also should they be paired up with an IM (which is a good unit) and gains wise what can I expect?

thanks in advance

ARC typically nullifies gains or loses power. The J's is probably up there with all of the intake types... snorkel, cai, comptech style, K&N... etc. Almost all improve throttle response and make the car a bit quicker in cooler weather. If you're on a JDM kick and want to save money and don't care about power loss, go ARC. If you want to not lose power and are willing to spend a grand on an intake that will do the same thing that a 100 dollar ebay clone will do, then go for the J's It sure is the purdiest

I have not been immpressed by any ARC products yet. I beleive you can get the J's intake w/o the chamber and save some money.

plus or minus 5hp. ARC is on the minus end of that.

For the J's racing intake you will need to cut your hood, stock or aftermarket to allow the snorkle to clear. Also you will need to cut the grill or remove it from the front bumper in order to allow the opening of the snorkle to fit.

unless u have other mods.. intake wont do much besides sound and looks

i went w/ arc cause the sound is amazing and looks are out of this world.

no engine is going to see gains from intake alone I/E/H would be ideal for small gains..

^ no

An intake will gain power...even only an intake. Personally I went with the AEM...the AEM is one of the bigger power adding intakes out there at somewhere in the 3-4whp range. SMALL yes...no intake will gain much on this car. J's does gain as well, and if you have the money to blow then go for it. I went with AEM because it's gains are just as high as the JDM high dollar ones though it has an inherent risk of hydrolock and doesn't look as cool.
As for the Ebay knock offs...personally I don't like them, I know people who have bought cheap ebay intakes and they didn't fit right, didn't have hose ends in the right places or were the wrong sizes, didn't come with all the hardware, etc. So I just spend an extra $150 or so and get an intake that is CARB certified and fits perfectly.

^^^Since he's in Canada I don't think he gives a crap about CARB certification. But it is relatively pointless to buy an intake solely based on the power production, since they make very little power. I have a Spoon setup that I bought solely for looks (it shows well on a yellow car), it did improve my throttle response minutely but that's the S2000 for ya.

Also remember that if you buy the ARC intake it comes in two pieces, the filter part is one piece and the chamber is another piece, together it ends up being like $800-$900 I think.

That being said I almost got an ARC intake when I was shopping around, I live in FL and due to our heavy rains I couldn't go with an AEM or Injen-style CAI, and I know a couple people on this site who are from FL run them and love them. The problem with the ARC intake is that it heat soaks, though, so unless you have a way to help prevent that (wrap the metal part, get a vented hood) your gains will be nullified in cold weather. The ARC sounds amazing though, and in cold weather it does improve throttle response.
