Default A bigger throttle body worth it?

I am confused. I assume a stock Intake manifold (IM) opening is matched to the stock throttle body (TB).

So, wouldnt adding a larger TB to the stock IM be a moot point unless the IM was port matched.

On DC2 aftermarket IM like skunk2 pro series, edelbrock etc, the TB opening is actually larger thereby justifying the use of a bigger TB.

Same applies for mitsu's and several domestics.

I could be wrong, I am just curious and may not know enough.

Thanks!

Correct. The manifold needs to be opened up to benefit from the larger TB.

Is that a S2k manfiold - 1st and 2nd one look different. The holes on the bottom part of the TB don't match!

The one on the right is welded and opened up to 70mm. Notice the gasket mating surface increase over the 66mm non welded version on the left. The factory is 62.5mm.

May be true in an NA car (which is what this thread is all about) but if you followed the thread at Stage One Tuning about the BRP blower kit, they found the throttle body to be a big bottleneck when adding FI. A larger TB comes with the kit and added lots of hp over the stock one and this was true without changes to the manifold. (though opening up the manifold may yield more)

I did follow a thread long ago from someone in Dubai who had taken all his mods from a 00-01 car and move them to a 02-03. His dyno plots for I/H/E (and no piggyback) were showing a handful more horsepower than most people were showing with the same modifications on a dynopak and the only difference was he had a Spoon TB. This was true for both cars he had the mods on.

Take that with a large grain of salt though because there is way to much wiggle room for different dynos operated by different people on opposite sides of the planet. I did find it interesting though. However, if you go that route, boring is much cheaper than paying for a name brand and you may have to fix your idle after install.

Vader - I think the spoon or J's is 65mm, so I won't have to be as "aggresive" - per sideways, the one on the left is port-matched 66mm already which is what I would need to do. Unless, I misunderstood!

afwfjustin - what is this ProFlow option?

Thanks!

^that stinks Do a search for Pro Flow - they do a core exchange and send you a bored TB and you send your stock one back to them. They used to only be 150 dollars, but Sideways says they've gone up. Still might be worth checking out though
