Default EMU.

ok heres the deal. before i had a KN/70mm/vafc2 setup as most of you guys know. 227whp mustang dyno. but i got power hungry sold the vafc and eyed a emanage. now here i am cash in hand, and suddenly i dont want emanage anymore. i mean how much better really is EMU? ya you can fiddle with timing and a bunch of stuff a vafc/neo cant, but is it really needed. with stock cams it seems like advancing/retarding timing is of very little gain. i can pick up another vafc/neo for cheap and retune and get my 230whp back, it EMU going to get me 240whp, or 235, 231? ive seen dynos of EMU cars and they fail to impress me.

so, sell me guys. why shouldnt i just buy a Neo.

because the emu is pretty. no but seriously why not spend the money once and do it right so you can use it later if you end up getting something big aka cams? if you buy the vafc/neo now and decide down the road to do something that it cant control then your beat and gotta buy the emu or something similar anyways

i doubt ill ever do cams. the FI dark side is slowly eating away at me, and if i decided to bump the power up beyond 240whp, the nice folks at vortech can help me out there. even then i can still tune a SC setup with a vafc/neo.

If I were in the same situation as you, (no money sunk into the car with fall approaching so next year I guess) I would go with the EMU. WHy? It has more functionality and timing will net you something more than fuel alone and give you added flexibility down the road.

Besides, it not THAT expensive. Emanage and harness are less than $700.

I am going to do gears next spring, then make the decision to buy a few NA parts with EMU and be happy or try the Greddy or BRP/Flyin Miata SC kit. Got all winter to mull that over.

Talk to Nate (wildcardtard) about what playing with timing can do for you. Mase played with his timing and saw some pretty impressive gains.

^ I agree, adjusting timing can make good gains. Thou it can also really mess things up in the hands of someone without real tuning abilities . I say go for it versionJDM

personally i would never go w. a vafc just because the emu is only that much more expensive than it...and is so much more versatile

Yeah, but according to Mase, playing with the timing can really unleash more power. It's why the AEM EMS can make a big difference over the VAFC...not just changing the fuel maps.

And Nate put the EMS on before the ITBs.

Nate's been around some...but between work, school, fiance' and WoW, he seems pretty occupied.

Yeah, Twiztid also said that the real power to be found in tuning the S is in timing, and he's built a 300whp NA engine so I trust him.

Also, the EMU is so much safer since you aren't toeing the line with running lean to make power. It's a complete way to tune the way tuning should be done, and it gives all the benefits that a real tuning solution should provide: more power and more flexibility in case of future upgrades, plus it can still be simply unplugged in case you need to get a smog test or something. Oh, and you can switch between two different maps, which adds to the versatility.
