Default Intake Recommendations?

so I dont wanna go all out for the Mugen or the ARC at this point because (and correct me if Im mistaken) I dont feel like they are going to outperform the cheaper ones and I dont want to spend that much money on it at this point if Im not gonna get a lot of return in the performance department. If it is worth it, I'd love to know. But as it is I'm looking at Comptech, AEM, the basics.
as far as asthetics, I really like the look of the Comptech, however I dont really want the noise suppression. Any advice anyone could give me would be really helpful.

Thta part of the intake is 375$ at aj and the rest i got for free from a buddy at a machine shop.

Sebmour, could you explain in a little more detail how you did this? Pics?

I got the bottom part of the J's racing intake (which is the part the most at the top of picture)

got a coupling made to hold against filter and intake (big hole) Like you see on filter in picture the i mounted my filter to intake and then filter to oem intake tube (like the mugen intake)

The only thing is you have to order the type-s tsuchinoko intake and that means you need to cut your bumper and hood for fitment and function.

Hope this help.

I do not have any pics because car is at bodyshop and have no time to go yet.

Thanks for taking the time to write that up. It sounds like an awesome intake for the price. What kind of filter are you using and how difficult was it to get a proper fitting "coupler"?

I've heard the throttle response on the Tsuchinoko is great. The ASM is made out of dry carbon so its very very light. I've been told that aside from these two intakes, don't waste your money on something else.

Although, Spoon makes something for the stock air box.

I'm not an expert on intakes but I do know that you get what you pay for.

I have the K&N FIPK kit. It sounds great and makes a little power The intake arm is plastic or some type of resin which should not retain as much heat as a metal version would.

The down side it really doesn't enhance the engine bay. Looks kind of blah. No JDM bling like a carbon/ kevlar snorkels. Or the super bling of the ARC.

As far as function goes it gets the job done. I think I paid about $250.00 - $280.00 wich is much less than the makes above

Sebmour that sounds like a great Idea! Wish I would have thought of it

Do you mean the super bling of ASM? 3 grand for that intake.

I bought the spoon drop in air filter. removed that restricter plate and noticed some nice power in the v-tech power area. although not much...its noticeable.
