The biggest reason the Cusco or any JDM cage is not SCCA compliant is the plain and simple fact is that it was designed and built for a RHD car. Period, end of story. You can debate this all day long. Facts are facts. Japanese cage manufactures could care a rats ass about SCCA and their book of rules.

but harnesses don't give at all.
Ever seen harness testing videos? Harnesses most certainly do "give at all". They are designed to do so. It is a necessary part of the overall design of the safety system. The human body can not withstand an infinite amount of acceleration, so the harnesses are designed to give enough to keep the forces on the body in the survivable range.

when i had my 6pt cage with brides and takatas's my head came nowhere near the bars ever. if you adjust the belts the way they should be very tight all the time, your body is not going to move which will keep you away from the bars. i am 6'0 and never came close. you have to remember if you are using oem belts then yes, because when you get into an accident the belts give a little before tensioning on you. but harnesses don't give at all.
I think you would be VERY surprised how much even a 5 point harness allows your body to move on impact.

yes the way the threads are woven together they are designed to basicly give a little. but not the amount of an oem belt. nowhere near as much.

I have been in an accident with my 4pt harnesses. and i can tell you for sure my body did not move. in a sence it was bad because i ended up getting terrible whip lash from my head and neck moving so much and my body not moving at all. have you ever seen an in car video of a race car crash? watch the drivers body the only things you see move are arms and head(only if they are not using the HANS device) other wise the head doesn't move much.
