hey guys. i was wondering if anyone had any info on how spoon modified their airbox? they cut a few things and put in a bigger filter. i prefer to keep the stock airbox and just want to modify it.

 

get an aftermarket filter. we have a few options such as Cosworth, J's, AFE, etc.

it lowers intake resistance and provides more airflow than a conventional paper filter.

 

Whoever's car this is has just removed the resonator that is normally next to the intake tube and seal the remaining hole. And most likely use one of their filters, as well as the intake duct obviously.

i have zero experience on K&N, so i can't comment on it. however, if i were you, i will spend extra 30-40 bucks on AFE filter becuase they are the filter supplier for mugen intake.

You don't need to remove the resonator just cover up the access hole from inside the air box, I just glued a square piece of plastic over the hole. The only reason I did it is because the resonator is the hottest area of the oem box, seal it off and it will keep hotter air at bay. I would keep the resonator as the air box solenoid bolts to the resonator on my ap1. I run a J's Racing snorkel designed for the oem hood, I think it is a better fitment than the Spoon, some people find that the Spoon snorkel hits the hood leading to stress cracks. I run the oem air filter.

btw, how much of the radiator shroud did you have to cut? just the top part to open up a slit?

 

Thanks, yeah this bar is my favourite out of four or five that I've owned, it actually feels like it's doing something.

On cutting of the air dam I actually had to cut a bit more than first expected. The J's snorkel angles towards the front bumper as it goes over the front frame bar so you actually cut out a fair bit to get the snorkel through it. Hard to tell in the picture. It was pretty easy to cut though, very soft vinyl.
