I've seriously been considering this as my next mod, but I didn't want to drop the entire subframe to install the rigid collars. These guys have found a rather ingenious solution.....

By "these guys" you mean Spoon, the guys the created the rigid collars?
By "these guys" I mean these specific mechanics. Whether they work at Type-One is not important here, what IS important is that they utilize a very handy shortcut in installing these that I don't believe is in the instructions, or any DIY thread I've come across. I thought it was pretty neat, but then again I'm easily amused.

Some of the rigid collars come pre-split like that actually. For cars with subframes that are trickier to lower I think. The S2000 install is relatively easy I think so they use solid collars. The subframe only needs to be lowered enough so the collars can be slipped into place. But yes I agree it is very clever solution.

I was just going to say, thinking about this, there should be no reason to have to remove the sub frame. Just back the bolts out far enough to drop the sub frame the desired amount to clear thr spacer and just do one at a time till all the spacers are slipped in and then retighten. I never considered the instillation of these, but will consider now that I know about them. I would however like to do the steel bushing replacements in the steering rack. I hear these help a lot in adding some more steering feel.

Anyone have a link on the less expensive version of these sub frame inserts? Why do the bolts need to be replaced, is it a length thing?

I am assuming that honda considers them one time use bolts. Has "replace" listed in the parts catalog next to all the subframe bolts

I think these are the cheaper ones, Chris.

Which steel bushings will you be using for the steering rack?

Hey thanks Alex! I think Blox for the rack should be sufficient. A local buddy put these in and thought highly.

This what you are talking about Junky?

Steering Rack

Spoon Collars aren't hugely expensive but more than $75.

You got it

Both things I plan on doing. I think they will both provide a noticeable improvement, especially in my car with how much rubber and stiff suspension I’m running. Lot of added torsional stresses on the rack and sub frame.

I love this car! The aftermarket just keeps coming out with more and more upgrades for it

Yup it is pretty cool. The spoon stuff is tempting but that will wait till my other projects are done.

If anything, this should be one of the first things to be done. I think of it as a foundation for your other mods to build upon... I know, it's not sexy or something that's visible.

The subframe bolts are supposed to be replaced according to the manual. Honda specifies this for many of their bolts. I, and I'm sure many others, have gotten away with reusing them. You'll have to make the judgment call. Some of these bolts do take a lot of abuse though. I almost thought I was going to shear one off while tightening it but then it eventually unstuck itself and continued threading in like it was supposed to.
