Stupid question, but if my car just has the old rod-n-hole for holding up the hood, this will retrofit it?

Yep.

These are plug and play on all oem setups. No drilling etc.

Bump for a great invetion, I have the NRG dampers and they make it soooo much easier when working under the hood, with these all the way up you have tons of more room when working

Will you have to drill some holes if you have a carbon hood or
will it still fit with no problems

The upper part of the dampers bolt onto the upper bolt on the hinge so you should be fine.
