2011 MD/NOVA Auto-X Thread
I thought it was fun. To answer my own dilemma from yesterday: the 255s on a 7" front wheel were not too bad. They were definitely not as good as on a 9" wheel, but I would not consider them horrible, undriveable, or generally unacceptable. They were OK, but would not survive in a class that permitted 9" wheels, such as STR.
I always run 35 psi on those tires when on an 8.5" or 9" wheel. Today we started at 40 psi, to support the tire better and to add front stiffness so as not to soften the front. When we drove, we spent the first 4 runs (Anthony) and 3 runs (me) figuring out why the car was LOOSE (not tight). Yeah.. the OPPOSITE of what we expected. I figured it out during the break that the front was soft enough to lower the front's overall spring rate/ (like softening the front sway) and this was changing the balance of the car. So to fix it we needed to add front psi. I went to 45psi and the car no longer oversteered. It became more predictable like on the 9" wheels that I normally run on the car. So Anthony had two runs like that (really only one since he was expecting it to be still loose) and I had two runs with the car behaving properly, of which I spun on one while shifting to 3rd for the second time that day.
I was really rpm limited on the back straight, and an AP1 would have been preferred -- at least on that segment. I may have had the advantage on other parts of the course.
Congrats to Chris H who earned 2nd place in BS and I think Scott W. did really well as well -- seems the changes he made helped him. We will see tomorrow as we head back into seasonal battle.
In STR James D slammed down the gauntlet with a staggering time and beat Chris L. I hope to be in with them tomorrow, but their times are honestly intimidating to a degree. I was nearly tied with Chris L. last week, and beat Chris H. at that event too, so maybe there is a slight chance of hanging with those guys tomorrow. We'll see.
Congrats to all the winners at the NSTC!!

I thought the ole 350z had a 59 in it, but the driver couldn't get it there. I'll be back for revenge on the hoos tomorrow
. It was a pretty fun event, though. Lots of free swag for a pretty low entry price. It's nice having a bit of a leg up on the guys tomorrow....

CANCELLED July 23rd Autox at Hylton HS
With the forecast for Saturday being over 100 degree tempertures (perceived temperature of 115 degrees). We are cancelling the Saturday July 23rd AutoX.
Normally, we hold events regardless of the temperture, but are now concerned for the safety of our participants getting heat exhaustion or heat stoke.
As a result, we feel that the prudent thing is for us to cancel the event and have requested another date (to be determined) from the school.
Safety is always our biggest concern.
Sorry for any inconvience this may have caused you.
Thank you for your understanding.

Probably a good move. I'll be up in NJ at the giant meadowlands lot on Sunday (with a bucket if water) for a huge Motorsports Northeast event if anyone is interested in making the drive. Enough autocross to get you fix, and the meadowlands is the best autocross site I have ever been to (of many many sites).
