Back from VIR. Ran a 2:16.something which was good enough for third. This was with RA1s.

E36 M3s with Hoosiers got first and second, and Scott Blair ran a 2:12! This is in a more or less stock car. The car must be classed wrong. He was actually faster than everyone in TTB. Actually, I would be more competitive in TTB. Go figure.

I was going a lot faster than i have before at VIR due to Wing, suspension, and wheels all being different since i was last there a year ago. Before I got used to the higher speed through the esses, I overcooked T10 and ended up going down the hill backwards at 100mph. That was exciting.

The good news is I recogonize lots of ways to go faster at VIR. All of which boil down to either brake less or brake smarter.

It was insanely hot and grip wasnt all that good.

The Honda Challenge guys were all great. Thanks to JFO for the accomodations! (Sorry about the transmission.)

DJ Fitzpatrick ran a 2:10 or 2:11 in TTC back in March....both he and Blair are crazy fast.

Edit.....he ran a 2:11.111 in March.

Going off in T10 is always great fun!

Congrats on the podium finish Matt!

While the weekend is still fresh in your mind fill out this VIR debrief form and then review it before you run there again:

Sup MA guys,

Figured this was as good as spot as any to ask this. Looking to track my 03 S2000 (45k miles, currently bone stock) early next year. Sold my track Miata/trailer/truck earlier this year to get out of it, but I'm miserable without the track. The go fast crack pipe is too addicting. Anyway, I'm not sure what...if anything... really needs to be done to get this car on track safely (other than a roll bar of course) and reliably. My next event would have been my first in HPDE3 (with NASA) in the miata before I decided to sell it. That car was mildly modded (stock 183k mile drivetrain, 225 RA1's, Koni Race's/Ground Control 800f/450r springs, stock swaybars). This is the plan right now:

Hard dog rollbar (single diag + bolt in harness bar as I'd like to keep the interior...its my daily driver)
Hawk HP+ pads (same pads I ran on the miata)
Stainless lines
Saner front bar
AP2 wheels + RA1's

I'll probably do the first few sessions on street tires to learn the car before jumping into RA1's.

Any suggestions as to anything additional/different? Is the front bar needed on a track car or is that an autocross-biased item?

I'm in Norfolk, VA btw, so this will basically be for VIR, Summit Point, NCCAR, and occaisionally (if I want to tape up my entire car) the "driftwater" track in Moyock.

^^^Most mid-a track goers (myself included) like the carbotech xp10/xp8 F/R combo for brake pads. If you've never tried them they're worth a shot. Great bite and handle heat well.

To the rest - hello downforce

Won't add nearly as much downforce as the apr 200 wings most of you guys are running. But it is more street friendly and I'll be able to recoup every cent of this investment if/when I decide to upgrade. For those who don't know this is the CR spoiler (it's a replica) freshly painted NFR.
