So I'm heading to my first auto-x with the S next weekend. I acquired a second set of AP1 stockers, and have some RS3s for them. I'll be running BS at FedEX next weekend. Anybody else coming out for it?

We forum members will be there in STR and BS. You should consider RBS / RTR for classing i you will be on RS3s in a BS car though.. It will be HARD to compete without some R-Comp tire in straight BS. If you want a bigger class than BS, you could just come in as STR, but your best bet is likely to be RBS in the RTR class...

See you in a week!

I have no illusions of being competitive without R-comps in BS, I had a set of RS-3s laying around in the stock rear size from my old car, so I grabbed some fronts and I have tires that'll last me around 3 years just doing events and maybe a week on either side of DDing. Like I said too, I't my first event in the S and first time at one of these in over a year.

Alignment question given I'm not intending on going bonkers with the car: What should my specs look like? The UK AP1 numbers look aggressive but safe enough for year-round fun to me. I'm going to try and get it into the shop on Saturday to take care of it.

What are the RSR and RBS classes you're talking about? I'm not familiar with them Are they a regional thing? I knew my class fairly well with my RSX, so I never really bothered to look at the other options for different cars.

All that said, I'm trying to keep this car from being a money pit - It's got a second set of track/auto-x wheels in that spare OE set I grabbed, and it's getting a hard dog for Christmas (best wife ever). Maybe a K&N because I like the noise, and a front sway if I find it too twitchy for HPDE in stock form. otherwise, it's staying stock, keeps everyone in the family happy.

CSB:
My last car, I went through 4 sets of wheels, god knows how many tires, 3 suspensions, 3 different intakes. Not to mention the countless alignments, LSD install, etc. plus the vibrating solid motor mounts so my header wouldn't crack (it did anyway), and annoyingly droney exhaust (which I thought sounded cool when I was 22, not so much at 28). I have no idea what the total number I was in to the car for was, but for what I paid, I could have just bought a better car to start with.

U really just need a front sway bar and max negative front camber -1.6? (-1.8 if lucky), and about 2 in back. 0 front toe and about 1/4" rear toe in.

After that, some wheels and tires and you are good.

($10 Discount on 2nd slot) CDC Autox Sat Aug 11th Hylton HS Woodbirdge, Va

Saturday August 11th Autocross

Hylton HS in Woodbridge, VA is the location of the next Capital Driving Club autocross on Saturday August 11th. This is the last autox in Woodbridge this year, making this your last chance to run at Woodbridge in 2012.

Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:15 (giving you 15 extra minutes) and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:15 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute.
The event fee for the Saturday autocross is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

On-line Reservation System

Open reservations is open now for both members and non-members (trying something different this time). To make a reservation, go to www.capitaldrivingclub.com under the "Schedule" tab.

$10 Discount on Second Slot

To help increase interested in this event at Hylton HS in Woodbridge, VA, we are offering the following special.
For anyone paying for a second slot, the second slot will be $10 off. So if you are a member the second slot for a member will only be $20. If the second slot is for a non-member the cost will be $30 (rather than $40).
The second slot can also be used the same driver (e.g. they would drive in two heats) or for a guest.
If you sign up for a second slot, just type "Second Slot" in the Notes Section. Otherwise, we may think you mistakenly submitted duplicate reservations.
Remember, to make a second slot, MAKE A SECOND RESERVATION (if the second slot is for a different person, type "Second slot for (type the name of the first slot person)".
-Several people used the second slot for a guest (some that never autocrossed with CDC) -Many participants used the second slot to get 12 runs -Some used the second slot to be a point autocross in the 6 morning runs (since only the first 6 counted for points) then treated the afternoon as a TNT by trading cars with other two slot participants
This offer is only extended for this event at Hylton HS on Saturday August 11th, 2012 and will only be offered at Hylton HS.

If you have any questions, let me know at capitaldriving@yahoo.com.

It sounds like you have the same approach as I do. I autocross a lot just because it's fun as hell, but I have no intention of dumping money and mods into my daily driven S. I do have a K&N, since I think it's one of the least expensive ways to get an awesome sound that doesn't drone. I also have an additional set of AP1 wheels with Dunlop Star Specs. Besides that, my car is stock. I just like to learn to handle the car as well as possible as it is. It is tail happy, but you have plenty of time to correct and prevent a spin. A stock AP1 can also pivot pretty well which is good for the tight courses, which occasionally happens at SCCA, but not often.

Autocross events this weekend:

- Autocrosser's Inc (as Mike stated)

- Potomac Porsche "PorscheFest" I did this last year -- it's on the Shennandoah Circuit at Summit Point (uses part of the smaller race track).

My video from last year (car was nearly stock, my how far it's come in a year) -->

- MSNE in NJ at Meadowlands (see autox4u.com)

Last Weekend I did this SCCA event in NJ at the Meadowlands. My favorite type of course -->
There is also the Chesapeake Porsche at the BWI Airport (small lot).

Not positive what I'm doing, but Summit Point is closest to me now, so maybe that..

Saturday. gotta arrive early. the link has the info in my post above..

And if you go, make sure to set your car up so it's not loose. There is not a lot of margin if you spin.
