The site said STi will not work. I presume it is some difference between the 5 speed and 6 speed gearbox.
Spent last night at the track. Just 6 people and NOBODY else. Pretty cool.
Got to zip around with Matt (car looks great with the new RaceLabz cage) and play around with wifey and her Miata.
The Miata has really grown up over the years.

I like the clouds in this pic. Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war!

P.S. Just took a look at the How To links in your signature..they are awesome! Very clean looking and helpful. Nerd Racing FTW!
^Ever since the WRX went to the 2.5L engine the STI lost a huge advantage. The motors aren't identical but with the same size turbo/injectors/etc they will make identical power. The STI engine won't hold up to any more abuse than the WRX engine either. If you go back to the 2.0L WRX engines then there begins to be a good difference but even those are pretty stout motors.
I'm not sure how the newer 5spd WRX transmissions are but anything pre '07 was prone to failure when abused. The 6spd is just about bullet proof. The size/weight difference is HUGE. 6spd is around 80lbs heavier.
Now with a much lighter car I'd bet the 5spd trans would hold up to more abuse. It's a tough call though. I think it depends more on driver skill than anything else. I had a buddy with a '02 that saw regular trips to the drag strip and autocross for years running an upgraded turbo that was on a stock trans/clutch and he could shift so fast and hard yet smooth at the same time and he never had a problem. Then I knew others that had blown up gearboxes on the stock turbo.

Cars look nice Pete! Is there any advantages that miata has compared to s2k? Asking you since you have both.
Talking about Lemons.... we had a blown headgasket.... Took the head off and machine shop ended up milling 30thou off the head to make it straight again!
The car seems to be running now, we will see what's gonna happen this weekend
