That's the thing....I haven't really found a car that I can imagine myself in if I'm to upgrade.
Therefore I'm sticking with s2k for now.

Sorry to hear Rob. I don't know why you have such bad luck with engines. You must be having oil starvation or something. You could always switch to a less sticky tire.

Good choice.

I am not laboring under the bias that everyone should have a S2000, but switching cars is expensive and always a losing proposition from a money perspective. That's one of the reasons I have had my S2000 since 2007 and slowly turned it in to a race car. If what you have is meeting your needs, keep it. The only time that it made sense for me to sell my car was before I started modifying it.

I wonder if the AP2 engines are less prone to oil issues?

I have gone to less sticky (street) tires on both the Vette and Miata, I am sure I lost a lot of time lap time wise, but it's so much easier on the car. Which is just fine for track day use.

robrob, do you know specifically what happened to your engine damage wise internally. wasnt sure if you tore it down or not.

the only reason i ask is all the time i see f20/f22 or any honda engine for that matter with supposed oil starve issues that caused a major failure of somesort, but during teardown the bearing/cam journals tell a different story.

the reason why i say this is. on honda engines the cylinder 1 and cam journal 1 are almost always fed oil first and then goes down to the next cylinders in order 2,3,4. so in theory and also from my observation of many engines the bearings/journals will look like this in an oil failure. cyl 4-- destroyed (got oil last in sequence). cyl 3 really crappy, cyl 2. shit status on verge of knock. cyl.1 sometimes ok or just starting to remove bearing material. this is assuming also you shut it down on first notice of knock/noise. otherwise they will all look like shit.

just curious as a lot of times per say crank bearing 2 took a crap, but all the rest looked fine. in my opinion something else besides oil starve might have happened. other wise i should see evidence on cyl 3 and 4 bearings as well.

Just a thought to maybe a think about. either way hope all works out for ya.

Thanks for the info postman, I haven't torn the engine down yet but when I find out the probable cause I'll post it here. High performance street tires is a good suggestion. I haven't done anything to the car yet so I'm still considering my options.

Somebody on the Miata forum mentioned using it to make trophies. Seems like it would be a nice way to remember it.
