get the alpine PDX amp I would not trust to throw a small amp especially sony under the seat.

I could imagine cabin fire. Or at least a lot of melting foam.

Fire??? Why especially Sony and not Alpine?
The sony I have delt with before seem to be a little on the hot side. the new pdx alpine amps have a small foot print and run REALLY cool.

Have you found the Electronics Junkie forums yet??? There are lots of really good pics and some decent advice there, too.

I should also add that I agree with Cow... Under the seat is BAD. Not much room and it will get toasty there... If you are shorter then most, you could try behind the seat. I have seen that work successfully but, ultimately, in the trunk works best. Either where the spare tire is or in the tool well.

Good luck!

Yep, I've been reading up on the electronics section. I didn't want to use any trunk space but after looking under the seat, I agree that it doesn't look promising. Reading through the electronics section I found several amp installs that used little to no trunk space - I'm not opposed to the idea after seeing those.
If you can find a REALLY little amp (like a little MTX two-channel), it could be mounted inside the spare tire. Just put in on a round piece of MDF and bolt it in with the tire. Would be tight, but it might work.

If you don't want to give up trunk, adding a sub is going to be a PITA. There is a way to get it in the pass side foot well but that takes a TON of work and means you can only transport short passengers.

I have seen a couple of shots where owners have put a small sub in the secret compartment. I have never heard the installs, though. Again, I would imagine this to be a TON of fab work and, in my opinion, not worth the results.

I have my amps (one four channel and one two channel) in the spot where the spare should be. It was taken out a LONG time ago... I also have a 12" sub mounted in the tool well. This install works fine for me and my daily-driving needs. I just accept the risk with the lack of spare tire.

I usually just carry a can or two of fix a flat along with me on road trips. I know there is risk but I am willing to accept it.

That being said, I am willing to bet that you will be just fine with the aftermarket head unit and a good set of door speakers. I actually get quite a bit of bass out of mine. I just like to feel my music as much as I like to listen to it.

Good luck with it. Be sure to keep us posted.
