Default Any HDTV users/subscribers out there?

After having my HDTV for nearly two years, I'm finally bucking up fo rthe HD receiver/dish. Adelphia promised to have HD "soon" last spring, so I switched from DirecTV. Dumbest thing I've done in awhile. Picture's always on... and it always sucks!

Any others out there that currently using/viewing HD?

A friend in Richmond has it through Comcast....there is HBO, SHO, NBC, ABC (I think), and a couple of special HD channels called INHD that have neat documentaries and such. His TV is a Sony XBR800 40". The picture is amazing....switching back to regular cable channels is such a downer after looking at a HD broadcast. In fact, when you switch from HD to regular, its almost as if there is a problem with the signal...it looks that bad in comparison. I have Adelphia too (not sure if the C'ville service is like yours) - they are lousy. My signal is fine, but their services are lacking. THe interactive program guide is weak in comparison to Comcast.

Yes, Richmond folk can get local off-air HD signal. Rumor has it that DC has amplified its signals to reach Fredericksburg if you have a big enough antennae and inline amplifiers. And yes, there is no comparison between HD and any other signal or DVD. My set is a 53" Pioneer(not the Elite series- I'm not rich!!!)

Anyone up north? DC area?

I've got HDTV through Comcast. I get HBO, Showtime, Some edu channels, ESPN, INHD, INHD2, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS...a buncha channels.

I have to say, I LOVE HDTV...it's hard to go back to regular TV after watching an HD channel. Bad thing is, even with the channels only a few broadcast consistent HD Signals. The others you have to switch back to regular TV to watch it (as I have a widescreen projection TV and watching non-HD in HD mode will contribute to burn-in).

Brian, I will find out if the local stations' signals are strong enough to reach me. Sure hope so! My set is also widescreen. What do mean having to switch back to regular? Are you saying that it will present itself in 4:3? I understand about "burning" the screen and try to keep my PS2 time to a maximum of 2 hrs per session. Even that is not recommended, but how can you not play on such a picture?!

Skip,

For me, no matter what aspect I set my TV to (Full Screen, Zoom, whatever) if an HDTV broadcast ends and a standard broadcast begins (many channels still broadcast the standard show over the HDTV channel) I get it in 4:3 format. I was told by Comcast that this is a standard issue. Being that it is in 4:3 and I can't change the screen aspect....if I leave it there too long, I assume I will get black bar burn-in.

As for PS2...I play it on my screen and just enjoy the "distorted view", after this long...I really don't even notice it.

Hope you can join the HDTV crew!!!

Bryan

Comcast HDTV and lovin' it. It's pretty much night and day. An awesome picture quality for only an additional $5.00 a month (if you already had digital). I never thought it could be possible to feel like you're in the MCI Arena or FedEx field when watching the Wizards or Skins.

My only question is when are the other channels switching over. Any other Comcast HDTV users heard anything?

I can't get Comcast here. I do like my DirecTV HD! The install guy mentioned that DirecTV is adding 160 HD channels throughout 2004. I'm ready... bring it on!
