I have a T1R 70R and I haven't been given shit for it at all. A few police officers have complimented me on the sound.

Also, what you need to do is get some video of several Harley riders riding past cops with their loud exhausts and the cop doesn't pull them over. Those things are soooo damn loud, way louder than an aftermarket and yet they don't come from the factory like that.

there's a reason why bikes in general aren't kept to the same standards as cars. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES. (I'm gonna guess that you don't ride) when mrs. sally the soccer mom comes into your lane because she didn't see you because you are they size of of a bicycle. chances are she will hear you first. yeah i know the same can be argued for cars. but with bikes its you and the pavement. you dont have a cage around you seatbelts airbags etc.

to the orignial OP. as long as you dont cut up and drive like an as@ you should be good.

I consider myself a biker more than anything else. Before I sold my last bike before moving to the DC area, I rode 365 days a year in all weather (yes, even snow).

I also frequented the track on the bike...

Your idea of "loud pipes saves lives" is more of an excuse from cruiser riders so they can have loud exhausts. MANY motorcycle publications have run tests and found that the noise from exhausts could only be heard once the bike has already passed the car. When the bike is in front of the car, it's kind of a moot point already.

So no, loud pipes do not save lives.

Not to say that I don't like them. I love aftermarket exhausts on my bikes, but I'm realistic about it and know that I do it for the sound and minimal power gain, not to be safer.

but aren't the loud pipes on a harley from the factory that way? that is what makes it legal.

They're not that loud from the factory. Stock harleys are not louder than any other v-twin cruiser stock (save for the super comfy/quiet/luxury v-twins).

I have nothing else to add but in Virginia you are FAR more likely to be pulled for exhaust or other equipment violations if you are driving a flashy colored import car than if you are driving a Mustang or Firebird for instance. Cops know that the best chance of issuing equipment violations lies on flashy imports (ricer looking cars). They also know that if they can hear the exhaust on an "econo-car" it's clearly NOT stock whereas a STOCK mustang GT has a pretty meaty sounding exhaust.

S2000's arent' as big of a target for equipment violations as the civics, RSX's, Integras and Preludes.
