So is an aftermarket exhaust a no-no in Northern VA?
I was interested in the Tanabe Concept G, but I probably won't risk it if that means I'll get pulled over a lot.

My buddy owned a prelude (car looked pretty much stock) and he had a Tanabe exhaust. He received 2 exhaust tickets in 3 months in Fairfax county and he didn't even live in Fairfax county, he lived in Loudoun and worked in Maryland!

I consider myself a biker more than anything else. Before I sold my last bike before moving to the DC area, I rode 365 days a year in all weather (yes, even snow).

I also frequented the track on the bike...

Your idea of "loud pipes saves lives" is more of an excuse from cruiser riders so they can have loud exhausts. MANY motorcycle publications have run tests and found that the noise from exhausts could only be heard once the bike has already passed the car. When the bike is in front of the car, it's kind of a moot point already.

So no, loud pipes do not save lives.

Not to say that I don't like them. I love aftermarket exhausts on my bikes, but I'm realistic about it and know that I do it for the sound and minimal power gain, not to be safer.
i look at it like this if anything is going to draw attention to me on a bike...ill take it. becuase even if someone is like look at this idiot with a mowhawk on his helmet and this loud annoying exhaust the point is that they saw me.

what kind of bike did you ride. and do you plan on getting another one?

(sorry for the temp thread jacking)
