Flywheels
1st. The search feature is def. not working for me
2nd. I've been reading its not worth replacing the flywheel unless you already have everything apart to say....replace the clutch or something. (I'm replacing my clutch very soon and debating just doing both at the same time)
now for the questions:
1. I've seen some crazy numbers claimed by companies ranging from a 10-30 hp increase (havent seen anything about a torque increase). Thats a very broad range. Does anyone have dynos or anything that show hp gain? Does anyone know what I should expect for gains?
2. Here is what I have come up with so far:
Comptech 9 lbs $440
Spoon 9 495
Toda 8.3 480
Tilton 8.6 ?
Fidanza ? 320
Exedy ? ?
SPEC ? ?
I think I read stock weighs about 13-14 pounds
Are any of those recomended by anyone here? Does anyone have any of them?
Thanks for any help. Hopefully this wont be put in the "stupid quetion" category
you won't get to much power..... .. it'll help it rev faster/quicker....dont' go to light cause if you go to light you'll actually end up losing torque....
people seem to like the comptech and act clutch setup for the street...
as for the exeddy it comes with their clutch package that totals like 1200 bucks for the basic setup...(clutch and flywheel)
keep in mind your full clutch and flywheel setup will cost you about the same price as the gears you want.. and you'll feel more of a difference with the gears....

30 hp???!! If thats even possible, it must be some SUPER light flywheel that probably makes it REALLY hard to drive period... Youd be spending too much time just trying to keep your rpms in a driveable range and pretty much have your foot on the gas at ALL times.
As far as I know, a lightened flywheel merely ensures that there is less drivetrain loss. That is how you get more WHP. But also, as you lighten the flywheel, you lose torque. Thats probably why they don't mention anything about torque numbers.
Not really sure what brand to recommend for you because I haven't really looked them up for the S...

why must you always be right? I'll get flogged for saying this but I am actually just putting in the 2002-2003 oem clutch so I'm looking to buy the flywheel sep not part of a package. (I hear thats when the plates changed or am i wrong about that too? lol)
if you change your flywheel you might as well upgrade your clutch while you're at it...... it'll save you money on install all together..... the flywheel on the s2k is relatively light as it is.. won't give you that much difference.. it's not like you're swapping out a flywheel from an accord or something..

hmmm all very good info...but remember...I have one of those 2001s so I have that wonderful %&#^ clutch and the noise makes me want to hurt someone. Not to mention how embarassing it is to explain it to a passenger......
"whats that noise"
"oh that?...its nothing....honda says its perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with it....just a spring"
"so why does it do it?"
so...clutch must come first. the thing is...since the dealership is paying for half of the price they will only install oem parts. so....either get oem at half price....or aftermarket at full. I dont have a ton of money so trying to get clutch at half price then upgrade flywheel. dont worry...gears will be coming too.
