Default got a ticket in MD, points in VA?

so, i was on my way home tonight from rockville after hanging out with some friends. i was driving down 270 where it begins to turn into 495. it was around 2:30 am and i was going 84mph. got pulled over and ticketed for speeding. i should have known better not to speed in that area, but the roads were pretty empty. my fault i guess i am lucky he did not give me a wreckless.

now the question is, will i get points in virginia? i heard that the VA DMV and the MD MVA communicate with each other, but can anyone verify this for me?

I've also heard that they talk to each other. I remember reading on this board that the points do carry over, but sometimes it takes a long time for the insurance to figure it out. I'm sure some others will have some more definite insight. Sorry to hear you got your ticket.

VA and MD definitely communicate, because all of the tickets I've gotten in MD have carried over and counted against me.

Sorry to hear about the ticket. I've gotten a ticket in that same spot after being told that MD cops never patrol that area ... oops.

None of the VA points have counted against me in MD.

I'm sure someone will argue otherwise, but I have the printout from the MVA somewhere for proof.

They know about it, for sure. The violation showed, but it did not accrue official MD points for me.

Rates going up are different. If the points do carry over (I have no clue) it will go into whatever totals are needed for suspended (8 in 3 years in MD). As for insurance, most companies do random checks. I've heard from several people (lawyers included) that if you change your policy (not the automatic renewel) they will look into your record. If you can go 3 years without making any changes, then you're rolling the dice, but it's likely you will luck out and rates won't go up. Just don't get suspended or into an accident as that will trigger them to look into your record.
