Rates going up are different. If the points do carry over (I have no clue) it will go into whatever totals are needed for suspended (8 in 3 years in MD). As for insurance, most companies do random checks. I've heard from several people (lawyers included) that if you change your policy (not the automatic renewel) they will look into your record. If you can go 3 years without making any changes, then you're rolling the dice, but it's likely you will luck out and rates won't go up. Just don't get suspended or into an accident as that will trigger them to look into your record.
i see, so there is a chance the ins. co. will not look into my record as long as i cool it down and no accidents, correct?

My insurance did not go up as a result of all of my tickets so far, and its been almost 2 years since I've gotten the majority of my tickets. Like bcohan said, the insurance company doesn't necessarily check your record all the time. I was lucky, because they checked my record right before I got most of my tickets.

Unfortunately the reason I know my MD tickets counted against me is because I received a letter in the mail from Virginia DMV stating that if I did not take a defensive driver's class they would suspend my license. It listed all the tickets I had gotten in the last 12 months, and two of the tickets were speeding tickets in MD (64 in a 55 - MD State Troopers cut me a break both times).

Of course, wreckless stays on your driving record for 11 years in Virginia, so if you got a wreckless I'm pretty sure the insurance company will eventually see it

Don't want to make any promises, but there is a chance. I'm wishing for the best on this myself. Waiting to hear if I got granted on moving my court date - original is July 6th for a 5 point ticket in MD. I think I have a decent shot at PMJ since my record has nothing on it ever (been really lucky), but even if it gets reduced, I still hope my ins. company doesn't find out!

as far as i know, i got a reckless and tickets in VA but im a MD resident and theyve never transferred so far. Also Dan, i dont know who told you that there werent any cops there but thats a favorite spot for state troopers especially cause theyll hide there cause there are no lights in that little part and you wont even see them until you drive right by next to them. I always be careful in that little spot because of it. theyre not there frequently but every once in awhile its a fav spot late night. just cool it on the speeding and you should be fine.

Same scenario happened to me. Im a VA resident and got pulled over in MD for speeding. I talked to my lawyer about this and he said it all depends on the officer if he/she wants to fill out the paper work to transfer the points to your record in VA. Checked my driving record recently and yup, points did transfer over. Good luck though.
