I've noted your request, but I (not speaking for other CO's) would say that's a no go.

The purpose of s2ki is to have a place where we can all gather and communicate. It also makes for a great advertising tool to get new owners into the mix.

Membership is just our way of supporting that tool.

Well, I've kind of let this thread run its course without comment... until now. I'm sure more than a few of you were shocked.

Deb, I agree with you. Folks should support the very thing that allows them to socialize/organize. For folks to think they shouldn't have to pay is not far from today's society in general. The thought "someone else will take of it" permeates many Americans today. Sad really. We were once a proud nation made up of proud people; go-getters; stand-on-our-own-two-feet people. Accountability went out the door a long time ago.

I whole-heartedly believe that all members of our community should take ownership and help/support/promote fellowship amongst the community. CO's should not shoulder the entire burden. From this standpoint, I encourage others to suggest/plan/execute all types of gatherings(not limited to car stuff) and utilize the CO's to keep threads "clean" and to promote the event(s).

Terry, your comment about $20/yr(<$2/mo) being a lot is hard for me to swallow. While I can appreciate tough times having been through some myself, I can say I never owned a sportscar whilst destitute. That alone should suffice in making my point.

In the end, let your heart guide you. As Brian alluded to, I have saved so much money by utilizing the vast amount of knowledge and experience on this site. No monetary value can be put on the friendships and memories that have resulted from this site.

Bottom line - I'm requesting that only paying members be allowed to organize meets. Obviously, the current COs would have to agree.
So you are targeting the guests who in my opinion do much more for the site than the paying members who make dumb ass threads like "Whoa if you drive on bald tires in standing water you will spin out "

I don't have a problem with paying members its just we the "posters" are the reason vendors like Centerforce Clutch, Eibach Springs, Raceonusa.com come here and pay money for the site. I mean would you ever pay to use Gmail?

I guess what I'm trying to say is in the big picture of s2ki we are the customers to the vendors not the site.

I respectfully disagree with this comment. Because I don't see myself as a customer in this forum, I consider this forum as my community.

In this community of S2000 car owners, I met a lot of good people, learned a ton about maintenance and repairs. Not to include the meets I attended and the assistance I received, either car related or not.

For me, those things are priceless. Of course I have no problem with none paying members of this community, for that is their prerogative. You believe what you believe and if it makes you feel good about it, then I think that's alright.

I would like to offer my wise opinions.

Disclaimer: I don't know the owners/providers of this site. Also, don't take anything I say too seriously.

The internet is essentially free and funded by traffic and advertising. I agree with the comment about gmail. It is up to the site's providers to find funding for their site. That being said, the fact that they allow guests to post and use almost everything on the site gives no incentive for a casual user, such as myself, to join. Granted its a nominal fee, but think if you had to pay 20 dollars for each site you visit each day.

If they offer a popular product, which they do, funding through advertising should suit them well enough. "Shaking down" users/eyeballs who use the site seems to me to be counterproductive. Perhaps a new revenue model should be used for this site if they are not making enough money.

Nick, thank you for your contribution, however, if you had read the entire thread, you'd have found that Deb had already withdrawn her request.

I'm pretty sure the CO's have spoken... thanks for all the opinions.
