My car took a crap at VIR this weekend so I am probably out for Hypermess. It runs but it overheated one run and my head gasket is now suspect.

Sorry to hear Pete. I thought Miata were bullet proof. Was overheating the main cause? I hope you get it fixed soon.

I'm planning to put in water and water wetter this week before this event. I'll most likely end up with a 80/20 mix with water wetter.

I run 75% distilled water and 25% coolant with water wetter. My car only overheated on last run of day 1 (with a 200+lb student in the the passenger seat) but when I pitted in the coolant was boiling. There *appears* to be some crude in the coolant overflow tank which could be liitle bits of floating oil.

Car runs fine and I added some more water wetter and Barrie and I both ran it hard on day 2 and we had no problems (ran a 3:23.xx). Still, I think I want a shop to check and make sure the head gasket is intact before tracking it again. Koyo radiator has already been ordered.
Sounds like a good idea to have it checked out. I hope everything's ok though. May be you should stop taking 200+ pound students out with you. Too much for the little motor.

That would be a good spot - we'll have shade from the sun or anything else that we might get.
