Talking I bought another car - 1986 E30

Three people work on my car: moparacker, Paul (Checkered Flag Shop Foreman), and Dave Pallister of DP Motorwerks. Well it was Dave (along with some buddies) who got me interested in running the Spec E30 class a few months ago. I knew I was going to put the M3 on the track, and was in the process of modding it to be track worthy when I spoke to my insurance agent and found out that I won't have full coverage even under an "Educational" track day.

So I bought a car I can wreck and not worry about too much

Before you start saying WTF Poindexter let me tell you first that I only paid $700 for this 1986 rotting, dulling, beaten, rusting gem

And here is the plan:
The * are items I need to do before AutoXing the car. I'm probably going to do those things first, run a few AutoX's and then narrow down the other items a little better before heading to the track.

The funny part is I never thought I'd own a BMW (wasn't a big fan) and I certainly never thought I'd own a red car - I'm obviously a big red fan now!

Congrats on the addition to your ever expanding blue and white prop. family! You got a great deal on your "Spec Class" racer. Definitely keep us posted on its buildup.

Looks like a great winter project.

BMW parts are cheap compared to Honda's I hear.

I have always thought you were a closet RED lover.

Lots of luck in the build up. Should be a fun project car. I think you should paint it zebra striped....

    That's sarcasm, right?

If I can have her ready by April or sooner for AutoXing I'll be happy - should have her streetable within a week or two.......luxurious and streetable

I'm not sure if Bimmer parts are cheaper than Honda parts. That might be true for the E36, but the E30's are just starting to get more popular so the prices and availability isn't as great .......the way I see it:

    E36 32___ ( 318) would have cost me about $3,000 to $6,000 to buy
E30 325 cost me $700 and I was looking for one for under $1500

Cost to build full blown race car on either one will be somewhere close to $10,000+ without hookups and that is where I would have been with a E36. With the E30 my technician (who is more excited than me ) and a few new friends (actually parents' friends) have a Spec E30 team and they're all willing to support my buildup as much as they can

The suggestions have been flying in ever since I said I was going to look at this car last night

Chad thinks Pink, but what does he know - he's gay

I don't even want to think what Dave is going to come up with

Mark, you should pick one up - this is the perfect little project for you and all the guys I'll be running with are just like you: family, real jobs, then beer and racing and then fixing the mess they made at the track
