Hmmm... video processing takes a long time for a 2 hour HD video, lol.

I will start the thread this weekend hopefully. I am going to reserve the 1st 6 posts: The first post will outline how we want to document routes, then I will have subsequent posts reserved for: MD, VA, WV, PA. If someone wants to document Rock Creek Parkway in DC, then we can group that under MD or VA. . If people have roads to submit, they will just respond to the thread, and then I will copy the info and put it into the appropriate State's post and format. Here is what I am thinking for ratings/format:

Scenery: 1-10 Rating
Curviness: 1-10 Rating
Police Presence: Low(5)-Medium(3)-High(1)
Traffic: Low(5)-Medium(3)-High(1)
Total Rating: Sum of above scores.

Overall Impression: Narrative description of the route/impressions of the drive. Short paragraph.

Map of the route - don't think we can incorporate google maps API into these forum posts. Best bet may be to make the route using Google maps, save the pic and then post the picture of the route. I'm open to ideas on this though.

Video of the route if you have it. Best videos would show as much of the road & surrounding scenery as possible.

Even if you don't have all of this info, we could still add the route and then beef it up as we go along. If multiple people want to rate the same roads, the main posts would reflect the average rating of the road.

Could Road Quality be another rating? As in how smooth or nicley finished the surface of the road is? I think that is a pretty big factor.

Sure thing. Maybe a 1-5 rating on that?

I never said I condone the behavior. Just that it's a bad ass picture.

OK, so I've started the official thread and posted all of the crazy-long video of the Catoctin Mountain Loop. If anyone wants to provide info and vids on any other roads, please reply to that thread, OR... if anyone wants me to go record any particular roads, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks!!!

This is an interesting idea. A few comments.

1. I personally like road video from outside the car, and if possible with engine or exhaust noise.
2. I rather see the highlights of the route, not the whole thing. Lets face it, who has time to sit through the whole thing?
3. I would LOVE to see an occasional shot of the car from the road, particularly showing the twistyness (sp?) of the road.
4. I know it's hard, but, I would try to keep traffic out of the video.
5. A 15-30 second intro of the route could be beneficial. Like a mini slide show including a map and text or a narration of what the viewer can expect.

I live in NOVA and I would love to get out and help with #3.

Yes, I did and it looks very good.

I like these kind of drives a lot. Wish I could do it more often.
