Modifry's dash control interface (dci)
Hello, my first post on here ever. I find this site very enjoyable and informative.
I had a quick question about this dci.
I really want to get a new alpine headunit and i heard here first that DCI is available. Has anyone had experience with it? Is it fairly easy to install and connect? Does it really work as i expect it to? Is there anything i should know before purchasing this?
Thanks for any help.

The DCI is VERY easy to install and configure. I have a Pioneer DVD headunit and have had no problems with it.
The biggest things you need to remember:
* the IR eye needs to be exposed enough to have a LOS (line of sight) with the IR receiver of the headunit. If it isn't, you may have some unexpected results. (ie. I find that sometimes I'll be able to Vol Down but not Vol up, if the IR isn't right).
* If you try to do things too quickly, it may only do it once. (ie. hit mute twice quickly and the radio will be muted, but the mute light on the dash will be off (unmuted)).
They are very hard to get, I think they're back-ordered quite a bit. I was able to get mine used from another member, but they don't come up often at all.

Most car audio shops sell some sort of DCI unit like the one offered by Modifry. If these give you the same options I do not know, but I'll be finding out soon.
As more and more cars have seperate radio controls (dash, steering wheels) from the factory these DCI's for aftermarket radios are going to get better and better. The audio shop I go to sells/installs them for around $75.
