Default Moving to NoVA

Hey guys I just got a job in Mclean at Northrop Grumman. I'm currently living in Columbia, MD. Wondering where i should relocate, and where to get a reasonably priced decent apartment in the area. Any suggestions? Hoping to spend ~1500/mo if that's possible.

Thanks for you help!

I hate to tell break it to youbut will will find out 1500 in NOVA wont go as far as other places will. But you can find some nice places in that range. Try Alexandria. Good Luck.

try archstone fairfax (now called amberleigh) next to inova fairfax hospital. We have a three bedroom townhouse for $1865 so im sure a one bedroom will be around $1500 or less. The commute isnt that bad to McLean (i know since i use to work there) but during Christmas Mclean just sucks!

Depends on what you want your commute to look like. Do you want to be near DC or does location not matter? There are some nice places in Centreville/Chantilly as well as out by Ashburn. Arlington is a great location, but you will have more options with your budget ($1500/month) if you have roommates.

Craigslist is a good source - that's how I found my last 2 places

Lots of peeps relocating to NOVA it seems. Congratulations. You may be able to find something for $1500 a month without sharing, but it will be tricky and probably not near your office. Unfortunately, you don't have a Metro stop to use, and traffic is pretty much a mess around Tysons Corner/McLean, due to lots of office buildings and the Tysons Corner shopping centers. Just so you don't get a rude awakening your first day driving to work. Other locals can give you better ideas about where to rent than I can. Good luck!

I have been helping someone look for 1 bedroom apartment in the Herndon area. Just about all the 700+ sq ft apartments are going for around 11xx-13xx. Check out rent.com

As someone who works in the Tysons area, I can say its a mess and will only get worse when they start building the metro here. And around Xmas time, it is the worst. But other than that it's great!

I live in Reston and rent a 1bdr under that amount you suggested. Its 12miles one way down the Toll Road and the commute isn't that bad.

try the halstead at 2655 prosperity avenue in fairfax, va. it's close to the merrifield post office, if you know where that is. about 10 mins away from tysons corner via gallows road (no need to get on a major hwy). it's also right off the beltway. and, it's across the street from dunn loring metro.

it's a condo complex, but a fair amount of owners rent their units and advertise on craigslist. the going rate is right around $1500 for a 1 bdroom. the bldg is about 1 yr old, and most (if not all) units have granite countertops, washer/dryer, stainless appliances, 9-10 ft ceilings, and garage parking.

some listings i found just now:

halstead on craigslist -$1500

another craigslist ad -$1500

this one is $1400

good luck at your new job

halstead is nice.. i use to have friends that live there.. but now they moved over to the Wilton house. Gallows road gets backed up but its bearable. I use to work at tysons and the commute is about 30mins. from where i live now which is down pass Halstead towards annandale. Honestly the commute wasnt that bad its bearable.

geesh....my two bedroom apt in fairfax costs me almost as much as your 3 bedroom townhouse. I think I'll look into that for myself (If I end up not buying something soon)
