Hey guys! Anything special I need to know about moving to Richmond/Petersburg?

My wife is making noises about moving there in the next year. Anything special or different regarding cars there? I see my vanity plate numbers are still available from a quick on-line check. Ad valorem tax there on car license plates? Just getting information to save myself too many surprises.
