Default Muffin needs tires

So the rears on my car are shot - not going to be driving her until I get new rubbers and I've got a few options I'm kicking around:

1) Purchase new rears only (Hankook Ventius V12 EVO 255/40/17) and continue rocking the front that have decent tread
2) Purchase 4 tires (225/45/17 and 255/40/17) of either Dunlop Star Specs or Hankook RS3's
3) Similar to #2 but try to stuff some more meat on the wheels (17x8, 17x9) and get like 235/40 and 265/40

I'm starting to prep for the supercharger (already got exhaust ordered and shipped!) so I've been tossing around just getting all 4 brand new stickier tires as part of that. I have my daily driver Pilot so snow/cold performance isn't an issue.

If I recall correctly Pete has had both those RS3's and StarSpecs but I can't remember what others are using. Any thoughts guys?

I'd say go with 1.

The next time around you'll probably have to buy both front and rear. You could change up then. As for getting ready for the supercharger, when are you planning to have everything ready to go? Remember going with stickier tires now, just means that you're going to go through them quicker and may have to replace them soon after or when you have everything ready. Depending on your timeline, of course.

I've been in contact with them for a little bit now - mostly their internet sales guy. I need to give Chris a call directly and speak with him. I was going to get a mini group-buy going but that I don't think is happening so I'll be waiting for their sale this upcoming year (February IIRC).

The S doesn't get driven any day but Fridays at this point, so I don't plan on lots of miles on them. You're definitely correct on getting the rears now then replace both later on. That may be the best approach (and cheapest haha)

I've also run both the Star Specs and RS3 and I think it's just personal preference. I think the Star Spec is better all things considered. Warm-Hot weather dry grip nothing will beat the RS3. Pretty much everywhere else the Star Spec will do just as good or better. The Star Specs are also awesome in the rain. Star Specs need less camber as well for optimal performance. Most track guys are having to run an extra -.5 of camber on the RS3s to get even where compared to other tires out there. Price is hard to beat though on the RS3 but I also think it's only a matter of time before it goes up. Star Specs will definitely last longer too.

cliffs: I love both but next time I need tires I'll be going back to the Star Specs.

I'd say for now just get two new rears especially if the fronts have plenty of life and they aren't too expensive. As far as your option 3 goes. A 235/40 is a super small sidewall matched against a 265/40. That'll look real goofy. If you do 265/40s out back you should really run a 235/45 up front. I think you'd be fine though just running the usual 225/255 setup.

Chris, imo, i'd go option #1, and keep rocking the fronts until they're bald. Wow, supercharged, ..nice!!

Greddy SE Duals (burnt tip) and a 70mm Berk Test Pipe are already on their way too

Go with an extreme performance tire. You won't look back.

^Yes! It's a very big difference in terms of grip.

If you're buying 4 new tires you should only be considering one of the following:

Advan AD08, Bridgestone RE-11, Dunlop Star Spec, Hankook RS3.
