Default Need to get rid of my p/u

Hey People,

I need to get rid of my 94 Nissan PU ext. cab auto w/ 140K miles. Reverse went out in 2002, thus my S. One of the local shop wants it and will give me $500.
Here's the problem. I have lost/misplaced my title.
1. What do I do?
2. Do I need my title to get rid of my PU?
3. Also, should I sell for $500 or should I donate.
4. Can I donate w/o a reverse, like to a local high school or college auto shop?
5. If donate, do I still need my title?
6. What would you do in my shoes?

Please help and thanks in advance.

LT

I'll answer what I can from personal experience:

2. You can get a new title from the DMV usually takes 2-3 weeks.
3. Donation would be nice but usually one of the stipulations is that the car is in working order. Without a Reverse I don't know if that qualifies. If you can though, I would donate it to a charity. You usually get more then it is worth in a personal sale. I donated a 89 Cougar with nearly 150k on the odometer and got $3.5k back in taxes to a local school for the blind.
4. I don't think local schools are equiped to give you the proper forms for a tax break donation.
5. Yes you need your title for a donation because it still has to get transferred to the new owners
6. How much would it cost to fix the Reverse problem? If it's less then you would get back in a charity donation it might be worth the hassle.

LT - Like Dan said, you have to go to the MVA and get a Duplicate Title form. But, it won't take very long. They will be able to issue you one right on the spot. Go to MVA's website to see what requirements there are before waiting in that long asss line.

If you wanted to donate the car, call Melwood at 301.599.8000. They will come to pick the car up and issue you the proper form for writeoff.

btw - You ARE coming to this Sunday's drive, right??!

Thank guys,

My PU was registered in Oklahoma. Guess I'll call them up and see if they can mail me another copy of my title.

Sunday? Drive?? What Sunday Drive???

I know their is the Capital Raceway thing I wanted to do this Friday if the weather is good.
Saturday, I have that habitat for humanity thing I have to do w/ that Korean girl.
Sunday, I have church but I CAN miss that.

So, what drive on Sunday??? Let me know Andy, and I'll go.

Thanks,

LT

I'm in. Just didn't know about it. So much for church.

I'll see you all at 0800 at JCH. Thanks for the update Andy.

In regards to my PU, I'll keep you posted. I just have to contact DMV in Oklahoma to get a copy of my title. This just may take awhile.

Thanks again guys,

LT
